| Dark Tranquillity – Lethe Lyrics

I'm speechless... this song is indescribable. My favorite Dark Tranquillity song ever.. and Dark Tranquillity is one of my favorite bands ever. I recently saw them live with In Flames (my all time favorite band. You MUST check them out if you haven't yet), and I was simply blown away. Anyway, without rambling too much more I'll just say, once again, that the lyrics to this song are simply amazing.
P.S. Lethe is a river in Hades (Greek mythology) that the dead would drink from to forget all of their hardships in life. It also means to forget or lose memories.
"Of forgetfulness, empty and strong" |

Lol.. I saw something on TV (I think the discovery channel) the other day that was all about trephination (drilling holes into people's heads) |

So true. Once again, The More Things Change is fucking HEAVY. This song expresses all the hate, and the rage that I feel. |

Another MH song speaking out against the fakeness of the world, and how people "conform on site". A great song in my opinion. Defying everyone else's view of life. |

Slow, emotional, and amazing describes this song pretty well. Although, I don't think it's quite as good as The Burning Red (the song that is). |

Every time I hear this song I think "Damn... why couldn't Kontos have stayed with MH?" Don't get me wrong, McClain is a kickass drummer... but this song is just fucking great. |

And it reminds me of the song "Dittohead" by slayer (which Machine Head also played live along with slayer :)

It's corroding from inside
Slap your hand you'll do no time"

Too bad the music video was never played because of Sep. 11. The video showed them playing on a burning skyscraper, plus the title "Crashing around you"... just really bad timing (it came out before the attacks though). |

Reminds me a lot of "Jester Script Transfigured". Describing the same dystopia. |

Just for the record, In Flames didn't really write this song. It is actually a cover of "World of Promises" by Treat. Although I will almost bet money that the In Flames version is better :) |

Heh, indeed In Flames is an utterly awesome band. I was surprised myself at how few comments there are here.
Anyway, your description is accurate, I just think you left out a major part. The second verse is talking about recovering from suicidal thoughts. One day is all it takes to get back on your feet. In other words if you don't give in to suicidal thoughts, and continue living, you might just find a reason to exist. |

One of my all-time favorite In Flames songs. I believe this one is talking once again about how the human race, and technology, are taking over. It's talking about huge skyscrapers and other buildings ruining this planet. I especially like the last few lines, about the time-bomb coded in our DNA... and how the human race will end up wiping itself out (even if it's not by skyscrapers falling on us :)
And for a quick history lesson, Jotun is a race of giants in Norse mythology, represented by these huge buildings. |

| In Flames – Goliaths Disarm Their Davids Lyrics

Like most In Flames songs... while extremely poetic, the lyrics can sometimes be confusing. Although I have never actually read the story of David and Goliath, the main story of it is that the weaker man, David, ended up slaying the huge, strong man, Goliath. Judging by the title of the song, and the last few lines, to me this song is talking about today's world being run by the most powerful. Such as the United States being the bully of the world, and large corporations and CEO's as the goliaths. There is no room for the Davids, the weaker ones, to make a stand. |

I think this song is obviously about love. The reason I really like it is because it isn't about the fake "Love at first sight" and "Happily ever after" bullshit that most love songs are about, it's about the type of love that a lot of times hurts. Just my opinion |
