| Loudon Wainwright III – Swimming Song Lyrics

I happen to disagree with tthe comment that this song is just about swimming. While a lot of Loudon's early stuff is pretty one-dimensional (cite: The Acid Song), I think this is probably his most meaningful song of his early albums. This song is all about experience, and I think that the summer he is referring to is all about his childhood to adulthood, and how you learn to see things differently and to take things slow. At the same time you take risks, and you calculate mistakes. It's about the person he portrays himself to be and the person he really is. The song is my favorite of his massive repertoire. |

There is absolutely no vaslid reason why I should enjoy this song as much as I do. But I do. This is one of those albums I want to force down people's throats because it needs to be heard so much mor etahn it ever will. |

This track seems to speak to general apathy towards our fellow man. Most people are in a position to help someone, somewhere, and we all dwear we would if we could, but no one actually does it. |

In response to kaytee, I suspect that it is offically called "ill be yr bird" for the same reason that he is offically known as "M. Ward". Although I have no idea why that is. This my favorite song of his though, and that is saying a lot. |

The rumor here is that the band was in studio and the singer's sister kind of cut loose on her own take on this track (which also exists on the CD in full electric suck-ass version). The lyrics make more sense coming from the band, but would have never hit anyone if they hadn't included this version. |

This song is great. I used it in a little video I did of my two daughters. I can feel this song being about trying to hold on to their youth for my own sake, and how years from now I will be missing we are emotionally now, while our whole worlds are just each other. |
