They Might Be Giants – Exquisite Dead Guy Lyrics 23 years ago
This song always made me think of Lenin as the corpse. I imagine staring at Lenin in his case, then later seeing Lenin hanging from a hook out my window, and not knowing how to tell Lenin how damn cool he is for showing up in my life over and over again. What a world this is, with Lenin in it! Look over there, it's Lenin's preserved corpse! Take a picture!

I don't know what Lenin looks like, so in my imagination it's just a corpse in a Russian uniform like Stalin wore, except somehow I know it's Lenin and not Stalin. I don't even know if Lenin wore a uniform ever, or if he just wore a lot of furs, but that's the picture that's in my head when I hear this song.

They Might Be Giants – Particle Man Lyrics 23 years ago
It's been suggested to me that the different "men" in this song represent different social forces - science, religion (the triangle for the Trinity), fate and the common man - and the conflicts between them (and how the common man always gets crapped on, no matter who's fighting or who wins). However, I think this is just one way to listen to this song - I like to listen to it and think of absurd, melodramatic pro wrestler personas. (Or is that personae?)

They Might Be Giants – I Palindrome I Lyrics 23 years ago
I always thought the "snake head eating the head on the opposite side" referred to AURYN, the amulet/symbol on the cover of The Neverending Story, depicting two snakes eating each other's tails and forming a closed circle with their bodies. But now that I think about it, that's more tail-eating than head-eating, so maybe I've been off base all this time.

Isn't it silly when that happens?
