Metallica – Hero of the Day Lyrics 23 years ago
I think that this whole song is written to someone's mother (hence) "Mama they try and break me" I think that the "they" in this instince is people who are the enemy's at war.
"The window burns to light the way back home" I think this means that the this means that the only way out (window) is through flames that light the path home.
"A light that warms no matter where they've gone" I think this means that no matter where people are, these 'flames' that light the path back home, always make u feel warm and fuzzy inside.
"They're off to find the hero of the day" This is obviously the most important part of the song bc of the tittle, which is why i think that this song has everything to do with war. "But what if they should fall by someone's wicked way" meaning (in my opinion) what if these people searching to become a hero were defeated?
"Still the window burns, Time so slowly turns" I think this means that time goes by so slow at war, especially when u think about the way home.
"Someone there is sighing, Keepers of the flames" I think that "there" is refering at home someone is sighing (waiting), the keepers of the flames (the way back home)
"Do ya feel your name? Can't you hear your babies crying?" I think this is directed back at the mother again.. i think its saying that, "do u feel ur name" - the last name is what i assume, meaning, can u feel that u are part of this too, can u feel ur babies crying, - i think this emans can u feel their pain
"Mama they try and break me, Still they try and break me" - i think this is refering to the struggle between the enemy and the writer, jus saying to his mother how much pain it is
"'Scuze me while I tend to how I feel, These things return to me that still seem real" - i think this means that this whole song is a type of flashback to when he(no im not sexist, but it most likely was a he) was at war, and hes tlakin to his mother about the pain and fear
"Now deservingly this easy chair, But the rocking stopped by wheels of despair" - i think "he" is saying that he deserves the chair bc he went through so much, but he stops wiht dispair as he remeneses about something terrible.
"Don't want your aid" - hes trying to say hes doesnt need help now
"But the fist I've made, For years can't hold or feel" - hes trying to tell his mother that hes a harder person (no feelings) bc of his experience
"No, I'm not all me"- hes implying that this has changed him,a dn hes not who he used to be
"So please excuse me, While I tend to how I feel"- its a given
"But now the dreams and waking dreams, That ever last the night"- i think this is saying that there is another war soon, (the dreams are waking), and there will always be war, (everlasting night)
"So build the wall, behind it crawl, And hide until it's light" - i think hes saying to his mother that for her own protection, to not be like him, she should hide form the society and war
"So can you hear your babies cryin' now?"- again the war is going on, can u hear the "children" (what he used to be) being sent to war
"Mama they try and break me"- i think this is the last flashback that says that the enemys always try to break eachother
Well, this is all jus my thoughts, and what i think the song means... its a great song no matter how u interpret it :)

Saves the Day – Cars And Calories Lyrics 23 years ago
ok people, this is what I think...
"her life was magazines and faithful TV screens selling an empty dream of cars and calories and everything in between the sun and Saturn's ring but the price tag can't be seen and it took bites out of her insides till she was just a hollow shell"
The opening line basically say (to me) that she was rapped up in looks (hence magazines and faithful TV screens) who were selling her into a life of anerexia, "but the price tag can't be seen", meaning that what you see is what the people look like, but you can't see the price they pay (mentally and physically) to look that way. And then it goes on to say that it takes bites out of her insides (the price that can't be seen)
"She grew up in east LA watching celebrities living out all of her dreams. The plastic canopy of US royalty drew her gaze towards the sky and away from her own mind.
And it took bites out of her insides till she was just a hollow shell."
The next lines say to me that she watches them live out their lives, and that that is what she decided she wanted to be like then it says "The plastic canopy of US royalty drew her gaze towards the sky and away from her own mind." A conopy is used here (i think) as suttin that cover something of high ranking~ US Royalty (i think) is considered to be the celebrities, because these days almost anyone would rather be a king/queen in LA then in the Government. Anyways, I think this line is saying that the way that celebrities get treated made her want to look up to them and be like them even more. I think that the word "it drew her gaze towards the sky" say that. And then it says, "and away from her own mind" meaning that she was too busy thinking about wanting to be like them to realize her mind's health. And then it says that "it took bites out of her insides" i dont think i need to explain.
"And at home her mother cried cause daddy had something on the side and they didn't look up when she sighed. And when August came around, the bathing suits were on the ground replaced by a cotton cloak. To see her own reflection was like squinting in the sun.
And when all tomorrow brings is a set if broken wings it takes bites out of your insides till you are just a hollow shell."
Theres a lot here... i think this last part says that her mother and father were to rapped up in themselves to realize their daughters problem. Then in August, when bathingsuits were on the ground, she was wearing a cotton cloak (i think this means a hospital cloak, i think she had attempted suicide) and then it says "to see her own reflection was like squinting in the sun" I think this is saying that looking at herself now was blinding to her bc she couldnt recognize herself, and think that the next line is the best of the whoel song bc i think what it is saying is that if the wings werent broken, she would have flown to heaven, but her attempt didn't go through and that "when all tomarrow brings is a set of broken wings, well it takes bites out of your insides, until you are just a hollow shell" I think that hes showing you life through an anerexic/suicidal person's eyes. and then he goes on to say that that happened to the girl. Anyways, thats what the song means to me, thanx for readin all this :)
