| Rilo Kiley – Portions for Foxes Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I first saw Rilo Kiley this September when they opened for Coldplay. I didn't know she was one of the chicks who sang in the Postal Service, too. Even before I realized that I was drawn to her for some reason.. she's quite good. I'm definitely keeping my eye on them now. | |

This song has a good sound... I love the backing vocals on the chorus. But that's not the point of this comment, unfortunately. (Note: This is not meant to be bashing anyone in any way.) I've been through several of these 'forums' today.. and EVERY SINGLE ONE, I kid you not, has had three or four people in them saying "You're all wrong! The band is Christian! CHRISTIAN! They're talking about GOD!" Why? How come it seems like the Christians want to claim everything? There was even one who had the nerve to say something along the lines of... "I'm not saying your interpretation is wrong, of course, but what they're talking about is PERFECT, and it HAS to be God, because what else is perfect?!" I don't understand. |

I still think things like this should be left uninterpreted. Meanings of these kinds of songs are unique to the listener. Some may find it leading to God, some may relate it to other things in their life in which they find release... Something that clears their mind and eases their troubles. |

People seem to be making this out to be where it's either about God, or it's about a girl.. though most are agreeing for God. I think it's unique to the listener. Everyone has something to them that is 'everything'.. and if they don't, someday they will. For those with faith, it's God. Maybe it's a mother, a mentor, a role model.. or a significant other. It say that something this deep is one specific thing is very shallow... and should be left uninterpreted. |

I don't know if it's so much that he neglected her... I think it's more like he loved her, but never told her, and then it was too late. Maybe the girl was untrusting? "Do you like the way you feel / Nothing hurts when no one's real", almost as though she didn't want people getting close for fear of the pain when she lost them. "She's not looking for the holes in all the lies"... She is fine accepting the fallacies about love for what they are, not seeing the exceptions. "I wanna bullet proof your soul".. he wants to make her unable to feel that pain. "You're a bullet through my soul".. her inability to let him in.. "Should have listened when you called my name" ..He should have done something about it sooner, but too late. I love the line "It's like fallin' backwards / into no one's arms"... Like the helplessness of his inability to reach her. (By the way, it's "I won't let you fall", not "I won't let you call") |
