Variety- I think the "plus" refers to kids. Like you would say "married, plus two (children)". They are also "her only plus"- the only good thing about her. And having sweets for them also makes sense with this interpretation (althought maybe some women do give sweets to their boobs. To each his own, I guess. (-: ). |

It's about losing the will to do anything, losing your goals and dreams (or maybe not having any in the first place), and holding on to love because it gives you meaning and something to live for. The last lines sounded to me like: "Don't lie to me, I think I've earned the truth- I am good, I am good." |

Yes, but why passover? What's the connection? It isn't just a title, the theme runs through the song. "Left with a mark on the door"- the holiday of passover celebrates the rise of the Hebrew slaves from their Egyptian opressors. God supposedly asked the Hebrews to mark their doors with blood, so when he comes down to kill every firstborn he will not harm the Hebrew homes. Also "Pass through the deserts and wastelands"- exiting Egypt through the desert, wandering for 40 years. I think it is about change. Your life has been very bad so far, but something very big is about to happen, that will destroy the balance. Maybe that change will hurt other people (like the ones in the bible, who were not spared- the Egyptians), and you are afraid, and not sure you want it to happen. The change might be good, but it might just lead you to another barren and sad place. You aren't sure about what to do, and "Wondering what will come next". Just what I think. |

When it says 'New York cares' it also says in the background 'got to be some more change in my life' or something close to that. I figured that the NY cares part isn't serious. He says the subway is a porno and the pavements are a mess- everything is dirty, cheap and impersonal. He is tired of it, he is tired of the situation he is in, and decides to change it: It's up to me now. He is going to bring light into the darkness. I do see how they are similar to Joy division, but I think they are more positive, which is nice. |
