my take: i don't think the line "i used to rule the world" should be taken literally. first verse- moses, for the obvious second line, for the third and fourth, a little abstract, but he knew beforehand he wouldn't be able to lead the people into israel second verse - the philistines feared saul because of david, and he's known for the crowd cheering with the "long live the king" line. third verse - lot leaving sodom and his wife being turned to a pillar of salt. chorus: first part - sounds to me like michael, with him being the general of heaven and the reference to mirror sword and shield, and being the protector of israel. second part- judas iscariot, since he's known for being dishonest in denying being decpetive to jesus. fourth verse- seems like joshua, he didn't personally use drums, but it sounds like the story of jericho. fifth verse is quite obviously about john the baptist referencing herod's step daughter requesting john's head on a silver platter. |

"the simplest solution tends to be the right one" if he meant the screaming eagles it would have been plural in the song "here they come to snuff the roosterS".... same applies to the marine flag, and why would he say "army green was no safe bet" if he meant the marines? so i think he was referring to Sr. as the rooster | |

| i never really liked this song until after i dated this girl for a third time.... that time i broke up with her cause i realized that it wasnt gonna work.... but the third time we dated fits my situation with her perfectly... one day she called me out of nowhere when i hadnt talked to her in a year and she apologized and everything and wanted to start seeing me again... and after a while i figured like in the song "i guess i'll let it go" sorry to be all sappy and shit.... i guess it means about the same to me as most other people, it's a pretty self explanatory song, not that much underlying meaning.... but after that girl i decided this was my favorite song.... it has a good general meaning with all that shimmers in this world is sure to fade... | |

| this is a song a lot of people can relate to..... the singer has a past relationship with a girl and he sees her and realizes how much he misses her. i dont really know exactly what he means by "would you find it in your heart to make this go away" is he asking to get back together with that line? but to me that wouldnt make sense cause the next line after that is "and let me rest in pieces" | |
