| Dntel – (This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan Lyrics | 21 years ago |

"your eyelashes tickled my neck, with every nervous blink." Gibbards inescapable ability to make any lyric sound pensive and sweet, ah gotta love him. Hey, who else digs the static at the beginning of the song? HuH, anyone...c'mon, oh c'mon ¿ |

| We Are Scientists – Spotomatic Freeze Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| These guys are totally scientists. I'm serious, check out their website...they all are wicked smart. I think they are from New York². Never been there, but wanna go (and check these guys out). I've listened to them before they had any real records released, but they have totally matured and gotten hells better. But then again I like Ozma--a lot! | |

Do you remember the JAMC? If anyone is curious about the JAMC, it refers to a Glasgowian band of rock-rock-rockin rolls! The Jesus and Mary Chain is a must amongst those who also dig My Bloody Valentine. Actually both of those (bands) appear on the soundtrack to "Lost in Translation" cheers |

| ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead – Another Morning Stoner Lyrics | 22 years ago |

Defining genres is like defining a word. According to Deconstructive Critcism (mostly Derrida) one cannot simply define a word in a language. Just as each word is unique, it can only be defined by what it is not. It is distinguished by what the word does not do or attempt to mean. Each band is its own beast... just as every chemical and every word. Music is forever trapped in an endless cycle of setting characteristics apart from other characteristics. There is no emo... there is no punk... there is no pop. It's all music and yes, even though we hate to admit it, even Justin Timberlake will elicit emotion from somebody. And truly, deep down, that's what we can hope for: Music to help us understand a world where language is a fairly useless flawed tool. But In the words of Jets To Brazil "OF course you're right, Of course I'm right." No offense, but it's a waste of time to be pretensious about music and feeling so self assured about what goes where. It really doesn't matter. Aside from my own arrogance, I think this song is great. |

| ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead – How Near How Far Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| verses said in nursery rhymes... hmmm I think we're on to something.. I mean ring around the rosies was all about the black plague. And nearly every kid's song like that is just used as some subtle pavlovian vehicle to whip our super-absorbant adolescent minds into an agenda for our outlooks later in life. I don't think this song is about a past relationship.. I suppose not a romantic one. I think it's definitely about childhood. And in the linear sense of our past, it's quite far away. However, we carry the past in our minds...how near, how far... But the memories of the past get lost just like car keys. | |
| Toadies – Hell Below/Stars Above Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| Maybe i'm obsessed... but what I love about this song is that Elliott Smith plays the piano in it. hoooray! Hooray for Elliott Smith getting down and precosious with the toadies... I don't really mean that.. about the precocious thing. | |

Rocks is right, Isaac. I mean cars. I mean... Okay well, what I pick up is that in most of their songs, there is a sort of catharsis that builds up.. even as an album and just explodes in the end or at some point for a denoument. As well, their songs carry a deep seeded symbolism that maybe hard to decipher. Well, I think in this songs case Rocks is synonymous with automobiles. I mean think about it. About, I'd say, 80% mass of most cars is some kind of metalic alloy. And where do your get metal? No not 80's hair bands! You get it from the earth. you excract it through some coking process. And I believe also that he's making some commentary about the desire to live in a fast food society... and how it's completely overrated. I hope i have typos. love, mathias |
