Jigkusabre definitely said it best. The song can be seen as a kind of 'warning' to people to not always trust the government to not be corrupt. Besides all that, the anger in James' voice is definitely heard, and makes that song so much better. The marathon length of the song also makes you miss old-school Metallica. |

The point of this song always kinda seemed obvious, i dunno if tehres any 'hidden meaning' to it. But basically, this guy has a nightmare about being wrongfully accused of a crime, and while he faces the death penalty, he wakes up from his nightmare. When it's said "guilty as charged.." , that's just the way James describes the ruling given to the condemned sumbject of the song, not the confession of the guy himself. |

I'm surprised so few people posted about this song. Anyway, bottom line is that this is one of the most quintessential Metallica songs of all time, and every single solo in it fits the mood of the song as best as it seemingly could. The dynamics of the playing also come out very well. One of my favorite songs of all time, without a doubt. |

I remember hearing this for the first time when i bought Master Of Puppets, and the haunting aura of the song never changed since then, every time i listen to it. The solo's awesome, just like everyone else has been saying. I also remember seeing James singing this once on Binge and Purge. The power of those goddamn vocals rock! |

I dont think this song is about any particular war per se, but more about the idea of the government making fighting for your country seem to be glorified.Either way, its a fast paced metal masterpiece with an awesome solo too. Definitely one of my favorite Metallica songs to play on guitar. |

Evillawyer's definitely right about this song being underrated. The production also could've been better on the entire album, which woulda made every song sound more 'radio-friendly' maybe. One of the best songs to me on 'Justice', though the whole album rocked. |

I agree with everyone who doesnt care about whether or not the song is about coke or heroin. That doesnt matter cause everyone posting for this song knows that its one of the most kick-ass metal songs of all tiem. Ever since the first time any of us heard the crunching riff in the beginning or the solos later on, we were hooked cause this is probably one of the first metiallica songs that most people have ever heard. Best track from one of the greatest albums ever. |
