i also fell in love with this song the first time i heard it. after listening to it countless times, i have come to my decision: i think the song is about personal weakness and trying your hardest to overcome a difficult situation. It may in the wake of an affair, or it may be just a simple confrontation between him and the one he loves. no matter how you take this song, it is beautifully written and beautifully executed. |

The song does not have to be anti-Christianity. I read somewhere that the song is about a lady named Judith (not the one from the Bible) that "worshipped" (not literally, but figuratively) her male counterpart, but he left her and threw away everything they had. Notice that god, christ, and lord are NOT capitalized in the lyrics, therefore saying that they arent talking about the Lord, the Christ, and THE GOD. The song is basically about putting too much into a relationship and not getting anything out of it. MJK or whoever wrote this is using God, Lord, and Christ metaphorically as someone or something that you worship.
Anyway thats just my 2 cents worth from something that i read. You can take it or you can leave it, the choice is yours. This is a great song and can be taken any number of ways. This is the way ill take it and you can join me if you would like. It does make sense if you think about it. |
