Five Iron Frenzy – Every New Day Lyrics 23 years ago
this song articulates what is to me the core of my faith and the core of my entire life. I am just *stunned* every time i hear this song, it's like my soul jumped into the radio and started convicting me of what my attitude towards God should be like.

The only thing that matters in the world is for, like reese says on the CD, for us to figure out what jerks we are and that we need God... and the awesome thing about God is that he'd rather take us at our lowest than our highest. Our best can never be good enough to reach God, but at our lowest is when we realize how inadequate we are and how much we need to rely on Him for everything, and how our life is all about giving up all the meaningless crap we cloud our lives with on earth so we can give our all to Christ. The greatest man is the one who puts his priorities last when he knows he could be first.

The greatest man was Christ, and this song inspires me to try to be more Christ-like and to aspire to His great example of humility and self-sacrifice.

Counting Crows – Mr. Jones Lyrics 23 years ago
right.... whatever, sounds like a stretch at best to me... theoretically possible, sure, but to make it cohesive you have to interpret a few lines in a pretty convoluted way, so i doubt that's the interp that duritz was thinking of...

Nirvana – Come As You Are Lyrics 23 years ago
too many responces to read, but my two cents...

Kurt thought he had become what he set out in the first place to fight. The fame brought the crowds, and the crowds cheered the loudest for his comparatively shallow songs, they didn't have any interest in Kurt's message. People started to misinterpret what he said, they made him the center of this cult of personality while they still didn't make him feel like he was changing a damned thing. He felt that his music had become empty to the world and that he was useless.

Nirvana – All Apologies Lyrics 23 years ago
no need for the personal attacks guys, i have no clue what the song says, but the only comments worth reading are those that focus the forum on comments about the song and related issues, not "you are the dumbest fucking piece of shit" and "Redrum = idiot"...

Supertones – Like No One Else Lyrics 23 years ago
you want a good Christian ska band, listen to Five Iron Frenzy. More variance from the supertones' uniform "God is good" lyrics, and much better musical energy for my tastes... www.fiveironfrenzy.com ... if you like the supertones, you'll love these guys (and girl)...

Counting Crows – Goodnight Elisabeth Lyrics 23 years ago
as helpful as Lilac and FRoguy were, a message like "its about loving someone who is gone" lacks all support and doesn't help others form ideas.... just constructive criticism, try to provide reasons for what you say...

Counting Crows – Daylight Fading (Demo) Lyrics 23 years ago
Alot more clear than the final version of daylight, but also less mysterious and concise... the other version sounds more like poetry, which is why i suspect duritz chose it.

The girl has either dumped him or made him feel betrayed somehow so that he wants no part of her, so he's "waiting for the one"... she leaves as soon as she sees the signs of the smallest troubles -- a fair weather girlfriend?

new idea--- prehaps he WANTS to say goodbye to her, but can't? ("she's gone to california, maybe I'll go out there too")... wierd... ideas?

Counting Crows – Daylight Fading Lyrics 23 years ago
the lyrics about California (i.e.- Hollywood) and the end of a year are VERY reminiscent of Long December, I suggest that anybody interested read the comments on that song... I like the juxtaposition that Duritz wants the MOON to light him up inside, but he leaves just before the DAYLIGHT disappears... it sounds like he feels bitter to the girl who "let somebody get their fingers into [her]", which is probably why he "won't be here" when the girl wants him there... kinda a sad song, but that's just my opinion, i could be wrong.

By the way, i think Duritz's lyrics kick ass, more comments on them anyone?

Counting Crows – Catapult Lyrics 23 years ago
that's a pretty sweet comment... however, i'm still lost on lines like "i wanna be the light that burns out your eyes" and "i wanna be the knife that cuts into my hand"... one of the themes in the song is what Duritz wants... a short list:

not to be alone
to cut his own hand
to be scattered from "here"
not to "bring you down"
to burn out "your" eyes
to be that romantic ideal ballzofsno talks about

the stuff about being lonely and wanting to escape and still to be with the person he cares about without bringing her down all kinda meshes, but then there's the mean streak... kind of a non-sequitur...

Counting Crows – A Long December Lyrics 23 years ago
well, all comments on my ideas on relationships aside, i think hookah's right on target... but the line about him wanting to be forgiven throws me off, as does the "last night up in the canyons"... doesn't sound that bad to me...

Five Iron Frenzy – Car Lyrics 23 years ago
this is definately one of my favorite songs of all time, the five-beat measures really give the song some great rythmical interest, and the lyrics are pretty sweet too. The song is about a relative of Leanor and Micah Ortega, two of the band members, who i believe was killed in a car accident... "Car" is a sweet title as it refers both to the vehicle and the person, i think this is a pretty moving tribute to a human being....

The Verve Pipe – The Freshmen Lyrics 23 years ago
Missboy, you rule, that is a totally sweet interpretation. I'm a big fan of the idea that a song can say more than what the writer put into it-- since the line says "stopping baby's breath AND a shoe full of rice" instead of "with a shoe full of rice" or something, i'm inclined to agree with you. True love can be a sad thing, but the people who take the hit, giving up their happiness because they know that in the long run it will hurt the one they love, those people are the ones who I think deserve more respect than anyone else. Those who have never been in love can have no idea how much they give up.

Useless ID – No Time For Me To Be A Teenager Lyrics 23 years ago
This is a pretty sweet song lyric that I just saw for the first time... besides what choda boy says, which I agree with, I'd like to add that the line "I'm out of broken hearts to give you" gives the sense that this girl has picked him up and dropped him more than once, which has recently happened to me. This lyric is describing pain like nothing else -- the writer has found the one he truely loves, just to be dumped and dumped again to the point that he knows it's futile to try again. He has given up hope on his love, and looking for hope once again in "someone new", someone who he doesn't truely expect himself to love like he loves the one he's with.
