I will pre warn you, this will be a lengthy explaination and it will all be based on well documented fact that I will be happy to provide you if you contact me requesting it. This song is about Exaltation or eternal progression a belief among members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church aka Mormon) that mankind, as spirit children of their Father and Mother in Heaven, can become like them. Exaltation is the highest goal of a Mormon, to become a God. I will break the song down by verse and explain what it means. (long before morning without a warning annie came calling to little louisa wearing the moonlight but wanting the sunlight she stood at her bedside and poured out her heart "get up and tell mama all that i said because i can't move ahead unless i can get a white dress" ) This verse is about a deceased woman named Annie who we can assume from the song is Lousia's sister, she visits her sister in the night from the telestial kingdom (clothed in the moonlight) or the 2nd level of mormon heaven to let her know to tell thier mom to have temple endowments done in her proxy so that she can obtain the 3rd level of heaven (but wanting the sunlight) known as the Celestial Kingdom, or to mormons the highest degree of exaltation. In the endowments each person is given white garments that they must be buried in in order to be ressurected and exalted. (charlotte o'grady, a dear-hearted lady, she seemed nearly eighty years coming and going one night while she's dreaming her mother comes pleading "charlotte, i'm needing your help to move on now, don't wait for nothing, the moment is today take up my name and see that i get a white dress") Again, A night vision from someone wanting endowments done by proxy so they can be exalted. (mothers and daughters are shedding a tear heaven's rejoicing as jesus draws near and it's like this they're getting their white dress) This verse is a scene in heaven of Jesus giving them thier temple garments and exalting them. (in wichita, kansas, neddie and frances bow over breakfast to start out the day when the voice of the spirit pays them a visit says, "it's time to get with it, there's family to save your fathers and mothers are biding their time they're waiting for you to help them get dressed up in white" neddie and frances are filled with desire they're searching through records and feeling the fire and after each day's acquired it's up to god's mountain where white is applied and he in his robe and she in her gown they're doing their best to turn it around and they won't rest until all are in white dress) I ran these two verses together to explain that in them the couple receive a message presumably from the Spirit of God telling them that many of thier ancestors are in need of proxy endowments and they begin to do geneological research to find the names of all thier relatives (neddie and frances are filled with desire they're searching through records and feeling the fire and after each names acquired) After they find them they go to the temple (it's up to god's mountain) to perform proxy endowments and they do this over and over again until they have been sealed for each ancestor. (walking with jesus in white, wearing their white dress walking with jesus in white, wearing their white dress walking with jesus in white, wearing their white dress walking with jesus in white, wearing their white dress) Another scene of them in heaven after exaltation walking with Jesus. (before the lord's coming, elijah's been stirring and fathers are turning to you and to me) Refering to the nearness of the return of the Lord and a plea for mormons to get busy and do the proxy work. I hope this has explained this song for anyone who may want to know. It sounds strange but it is actual Mormon doctrine, Again, I can provide information that supports all of this information.
