I think it's about a fan recognising rivers and enthusiastically approaching him. Rivers doesn't see him till he's right on him, and since it's night time, and he's a short guy with crap vision (as he says, gotta keep my eyes open) he feels vulnerable. Then he has this dude right there suddenly "came outta nowhere" and he defends himself, thus completely over reacting and looking like a psycho... Then he tries to make it better by offering to buy the guy a drink etc. It kind of makes sense to me, that was my first impression of the song anyways, but would be cool if it had a more abstract meaning, but to be honest, I don't think Rivers' stuff has had much meaning to it since pinkerton. |

Maybe the star imagery is being used to parallel navigation? ie North Star (I'm southern hemisphere, and we have a star that is always magnetic south, I assume northern hemisphere is the same) is always there, so in "darkest times" you can look to that "star" and find your bearings... Other than that idea, I'm stumped, nice song. |

| Very strong mood in this song, fortunately I think the bonus track rounds up the album a bit better as in my opinion, it is a bit more energetic uplifting, but only just. | |

I totally agree with ifnothappynowwhen on this one, but only because I feel I can relate to all the parts aside from the poison part. When I first listened to the lyrics I pictured a party I went to with my girlfriend and everything felt good, then afterwards she is completely disconnected and goes home to bed (We're both 17) which was completely gay to me, and I felt like there was something not right D: Anyway, sorry about the ramble, but after the party it felt like everything was quiet and a little slower as you all have probably experienced. But the part of have a drink with me my friend I think eliminates what I associate with the song being the "true" feeling behind the song, but hey, that's what I get out of it, and I really like the song, probably my favourite off clarity at the moment. |
