Good analasyis, Atemporal. Don't forget, no matter how powerful and greedy and smart the dogs are, it's the pigs who are using them, and the pigs who will win in the end. To bring another song into this... "Pigs on the Wing Part II" "everyone knows that a dog needs a home, a shelter form pigs on the wing" |

Sorry, but I disagree with japhy on a few of the major points. The repetative lyric "don't trade our love for tea and sympathy" tells me that instead of working out problems with her significant other, the woman the song is addressed to is seeking consolation and sypathy from third parties, like family, friends, and perhaps even the waitress (all symbolized by the tea). |

YES! It sounds like Cat Stevens definately. I must admit I hadn't heard of him personally, but my father heard a bit of "Fight Test," then had me listen to "Father and Son," which it reminded him of.
Anyway, as to the meaning of the song... I think it's about violence and pacifism in general; and about a guy losing his girl to another more assertive guy b/c he was to passive. However, I can't tell whether the song is arguing that being too passive is bad because some things just need to be stood up to, or whether it's arguing that passifism should work in a just world. |

Hmmm... this song is hard to interpret. I think it has a message of hope threaded throughout the dark lyrics. The speaker is in a society that he feels ostrasized and isolated from, and that he may be alone with 'no light'- no hope or comfort. However, towards the end the song gets more hopeful even as the beat gets mroe violent and choppy and he shouts more. All in all I like it though, and can really relate to the singer at times I feel hated and alone. |
