"the stars are so glad that they've found you" what a line. this song reminds me a little of the last track on mellon collie and the infinate sadness (smashing pumpkins)...i think its called "farewell and goodnight". very pretty. |

| Saves the Day – As Your Ghost Takes Flight Lyrics | 22 years ago |

how crazy is this song? he basically crucifies this girl (notice all the christ references? interesting) in front of the whole world, for everyone to see. i think this line: "You're floating somewhere in between the waking world and a landscape of dreams." is interesting too, it seems so beautiful and soft compared to the harsh violence of the whole song. saves the day is cool because they do this a lot. in any song about hate, there always is a line or two that contradicts the whole song, almost like a second thought. do you really think this song is about britney spears? i mean, i can totally see that. he hates her for obvious reasons, so in his mind he kills her, and drinks her blood like a victory ritual. all i can say is: COOL. write more songs like this, chris. they're so much more interesting then a normal hate song. sometimes a message can be sent a thousand times more powerfully when they're not said directly. i love it! |

| Thursday – Standing On The Edge Of Summer Lyrics | 22 years ago |

im really loving Geoff's references to cards here. i actually wrote a song completely using the card metephor. anyway someone asked about these lines: the first line "In this house of cards we're all holding hearts and spades": i guess the house could mean a home, but what i really see it meaning is a structure, like a relationship. in fortune telling hearts mean love and spades mean hate. put them together and you get heartbreak. so i guess you could say this line meant: in this relationship all there is, is heartbreak. very clever of geoff. "one breath, one step could knock it all down" the relationship is fragile and even the smallest thing could destroy it. "but you lead with your eyes and you give it away (decide, design to cut from the clouds)" Ah! more card references. this refers to poker...you know, like a poker face? if you dont have your poker face on, people will know what's in your hand and you will lose. so whoever geoff is speaking to is not secretive about his or her motives, so he knows what they're going to do. "And the people you love get lost in the shuffle" more great card metaphors. think as people as individual cards. like in a card game you might need, lets say, aces. but your winning cards go back in the pile and are shuffled, and lost till the end of the game. the shuffle could just be the craziness of life i suppose. you lose friends and enemies just in the craziness of life. like cards. "(When you leave, you leave nothing but broken hearts) you let it go and then you fold" is that poker or blackjack? when you fold? i think poker. anyway, folding in a way is giving up your turn, if i am correct. so this person is letting it- their cards(who are symbolizing, respectively, all the people he or she loves) all go. relationships, people, everything. i cant think of anything else. but oh, what a song. geoff, you're amazing. what a great way to talk about something so lifelike indirectly. |

| Weezer – El Scorcho Lyrics | 22 years ago |

An analyzation of "el scorcho" because no one else wants to hear about it. "Goddamn you half-Japanese girls Do it to me every time" [rivers just loves those japanese girls (you know this also from "across the sea", or possibly the fact that Pinkerton is just a huge Madame Butterfly reference). or half japanese girl, in this case.] "Oh, the redhead said you shred the cello And I'm jello, baby" [im guessing the 1/2 japanese girl's redhead friend tells rivers she rules at cello. and this just melts his heart and all that.] "But you won't talk, won't look, won't think of me I'm the epitome of Public Enemy" [despite rivers's efforts, 1/2 japanese girl doesnt pay him any regard, hes not good enough for her.] "Why you wanna go and do me like that? Come down on the street and dance with me I'm a lot like you so please Hello, I'm here, I'm waiting I think I'd be good for you and you'd be good for me" [self-explanitory] "I asked you to go to the Green Day concert You said you never heard of them How cool is that??" [so rivers asks the japanese girl to the green day concert. she has no idea who they are, and rivers just thinks the fact that she is so out of tune with mainstream music, is really cool.] So I went to your room and read your diary: "watching Grunge leg-drop New-Jack trough presstable..." [this is a reference to an old american pro wrestling show that was really popular in japan. grunge and new-jack were wrestlers. ] and then my heart stopped: "listening to Cio-Cio San fall in love all over again." [another madame butterfly reference. cio cio san is the main character in the play--she's a japanese girl who falls in love with an american army offical.] How stupid is it? I can't talk about it I gotta sing about it and make a record of my heart [hes writing the song instead of telling her he likes her] How stupid is it? won't you gimme a minute just come up to me and say "hello" to my heart [first line self explanitory. second is related to the cliche, "when you hold my hand you hold my heart". you know what im saying? sortive? he likes her so much that would go straight to his heart if she said hello to him.] How stupid is it? For all I know you want me too And maybe you just don't know what to do Or maybe you're scared to say: "I'm falling for you" [...] I wish I could get my head out of the sand [could this be a beatles reference? who knows...] 'Cuz I think we'd make a good team And you would keep my fingernails clean But that's just a stupid dream that I won't realize 'Cuz I can't even look in your eyes Without shakin', and I ain't fakin' [i feel no need to explain this] I'll bring home the turkey if you bring home the bacon [bacon can mean money...but turkey...i dont know. i dont think there has to be a connection, its just a great line] the end. |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – By Starlight Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| this is such a beautiful song, it really doesn't get as much recognition as it deserves. not only does it have beautiful lyrics, but the music just puts you in such a peaceful trance. this was my ex-boyfriend and i's song. it's really beautiful, and really special to me...every time i hear it, it makes me miss him a thousand times more | |
