How can you not see how it possibly has to do with parents? It's widely believed that kids grow up to be like their parents. "You thought you were there to guide me" what do you think that refers to? Parents are supposed to guide their children through life.
This song reminds me of my parents. Trying to push me to be the way they want me and saying that everything I want to be is stupid. I get chills when I hear this song because it reminds me of my parents so much and how much better I'm doing now that I'm not letting them be in my way. |

The song is a protest but it still is patriotic. He's showing that although he is/was against the war he is still very proud to say that he's "born in the U.S.A" |

I understand that music is made for people to take their own meanings from them so I can see why this person would take the meaning about god. But I don't think that CON was thinking about God when they wrote this. So for you jesus freaks thinking that this song was written by CON about God... well go read the bible elsewhere and find a christian band they're call christian bands because they write their music about god.
