| Bob Dylan – Positively 4th Street Lyrics | 22 years ago |

This is about someone who exploits the basic emotions of a relationship for his own social advancement. Someone who will pretend like they are hurt by someone else's comments just to get a crowd to disaprove of that person. Someone who will jump on your side to "help out" when you are on top and don't need any help. Someone who acts happy to see you when they really don't care at all. This kind of reminds me of a story Al Frankin wrote about Newt Gingridge in his hilarious book "Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot, and Other Observations." Al told of the time he made a joke about Newt in his presence which could be misinterrpreted as offensive and inapropriate. Newt took it and ran, exploiting the opurtunity to make someone else look bad and make himself appear to be the innocent man who got slandered. It all would have made me mad if Al Frankin wasn't so funny. ha, Thanks AL. |

| Bob Dylan – Like a Rolling Stone Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| This is the moment of self relization, when everything you've spent most of your life putting up to hide the sad truth from your eyes comes crashing down and you are left with nothing but reality. | |
| Bob Dylan – Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| That 12 times 35 thing is, curious, shall i say. I think this song is about the fact that you will get ridiculed no matter what you do. It also is about the fact that everyone screws up and sins as retsyn said. So with all this in mind, why not get stoned? It seems like a fair conclsion. You can't do anything about it, its the truth and it sucks. So you can get stoned and chase it away in a sense. Plus pot isn't really that bad for you, so again, why not? | |

This song is so genius that it has so many people arguing about its meaning even today! The people who believe it is a drug song can back it up in every single line of the song. Hpylori can also back up his interpretation in, you guessed it, every single line of the song. My point is, that art is derived from inspiration, whether it came from pure mind or a drug induced state, and that art was created for the purpose of expressing, viewing, experimenting with, and explaining life while also providing us comfort and an escape from life. Therefore art and drugs, in a very strong way, are one and the same. They can both be used to further understand or to escape from life. |

This song makes me cry probably half the time i hear it. Especially the version from The Concert For Bangladesh in 1971. It's just so beautiful and is pure genius. Concerning the blue eyed son, I think it is symbolic of a bright eyed and inocent child witnessing all these terrible events. As far as the white latter covered in watter is concerned, I think jerrybear got it with an escape route that cant be used because it is either flooded or too slippery to climb. I also think it can sybolize progress and the fact that it will be imposible to continue up the ladder since we have flooded it over with wars and destruction. The sybolism in this song is absolutely amazing. Also, some lines can even be interpreted literally as well as sybolically, like the line about highways with no one on them. Of all the verses though the last is probably my favorite. The first four are a vision of the end of the world before it happens but the last verse is one of hope. It tells of going into the depths of the ugly things in the world and exposing them to as many as you can. It tells of standing up for what you know is right until you go down and that you will know all sides before you tell the story. This is personal to Dylan since he went to the protests and sang at the marches in the early sixties. It also seems to be an example he is trying to set to who ever is listening. I think this song should be played for everyone at certain points in their life. Especially while growing up.Perhaps it could instile some sensitivity towards the harsh realities of war into everyone. |

| Bob Dylan – All Along the Watchtower Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| The references to stories in the bible are definently there and I have heard this many places. As a poet, I believe Dylan left this particular song VERY open to interpretation. There are many ways to interpret this but i feel there is an all incompasing factor to it. The references to biblical tales can be used as great parallels to events which occured in the sixties. For example, the crusifiction of jesus christ can be compared to the government suppression of great minds even today. I believe this song has someting to say about the turbulence of the decade and also to the general way things are at any period in history. | |
