the first time i saw Coheed was about a little over a year ago before the exploded and I could not BELIEVE Cladudio's voice. When he dropped his pick during Devil in Jersey City (I think) he took off his glasses and started playing with the legs and I knew this band was hardcore crazy good times. i really can't say how the new CD will sound if there is one...all I know is there back on Warped Tour for Asbury Park, NJ and the new song I heard at Skate and Surf Festival wasn't that impressive. i'm from New Jersey, STD's homeland, but I'm in California right now. And I was just driving up the coast from San Diego and listening to this song and I was like "I'm in...CALIFORNIA! WHERE THE MOUNTAINS CLIMB SO TALL. AND WAVES CRASH BLUE AROUND ME!" anyway...just thought I'd share. This is my favorite STD song. Tell All Your Friends is too good of an album...I don't think they can do better. And judging by the new songs I heard, they aren't gonna. Anyway...if they can beat it, then mad props to them and I'll shut up. There really was no point to what I said excpe to express my love for Brand New. A lot of people think TBS are better and I just disagree entirely. |

Jesse said in his diary on the website, "Being in a band means missing out on all the things you didn't wanna miss out on by having a normal job which is why you joined a band in the first place." That may not be exact but it's the point that matters. I think that sums up this song...he kinda wishes he could live a normal life and that some of the annoying, fad-driven fans like most of the girls would go away. The ending is also amazing even though I have no idea what it means.

I think he's trying to compare getting someone or something out of his head to killing a shark from a cage under water. Maybe he's talking about the girl he talks about in all his songs or maybe he's talking about a big record label exec, I dunno. But Brand New is one of the only really well known bands out there who are fucking amazing and aren't rock stars. They are the opposite of Taking Back Sunday and are a hundred times better. I wish them even more success even if they hate me for being a fan and thinking they are the most talented and profound band ever. If they hate me, I probably deserve it. Peace

P.S. At Skate and Surf Fest '03 in Asbury Park, NJ Jesse sent a song out to his family saying to relish this moment he was on stage because it may be the farthest he ever gets in music. This is not Play Crack The Sky. Play Crack The Sky is about a shipwreck off of Long Island. My friend and I had a burnt CD of the Deja demos and this was on it. I'm upset it wasn't on Deja because it's so good...and it wasn't all acousic. I dunno if it's Flying at Tree Level but I hope it's released on some CD whether it be a soundtrack or the album. Mad props to Brand New. I feel Jesse's pain and his happiness. I'm backing him for sure. |

Alright...I'm gonna clear a few things up here. First, the whole song is sung by Jesse, all the main parts anyway. He has a very distinct voice. Two, the title is from the move "Rat Bait" featured in Home Alone 2. Three, the Ataris are worse than Linkin Park and Simple Plan. And fourth, the feud dramatized in "Seventy Times Seven" and "There's No I In Team" is not between Adam and Jesse. Adam and Jesse didn't grow up together, cuz Adam is from North Carolina, not Long Island like Jesse. However, TBS's guitarist John writes all the lyrics and the fued was between Jesse and John.
