Alexor: minus a billion points for using "fools" nonironically. Keep working on your arrogant music jerk routine though. Throw in a little wit with that passion and you’ll approach High Fidelity levels. I thought this song was more about the collateral damage in Afghanistan and Iraq. Kids laughing and playing moments before missiles rain down. That’s my imagery. We encage them in our freedom by supposedly fighting for them though they would not wish it of us. |

I always thought this song was about the Velvet Revolution the Czechoslovakia that ended communist rule in 1989. According to urban legend said that the name came not only from the fact that it was bloodless, but because many of its organizers were artists who passed around contraband tapes of the Velvet Underground to one another. Listening to subversive western music and filled with idealism, the youth culture forced a totalitarian state to its knees. It’s a fun myth, and based upon what I know of Stars it would fit perfectly into their delusions of revolutionary grandeur. Canadians are SO cute. |
