| There's a lot of good theories on the meaning behind this song that are on here. I could see the comparisons to Dirk Lance, but I don't think it's necessarily about Dirk. Like Drewsredwings said, it could be about drugs, but I think it's a little more than that. Not so much the subject's "love of drugs," but rather, addiction to drugs. I believe that the subject of this song, for one reason or another, is falling into addiction. My guess would be drug addiction. The reasons behind his addiction could vary, maybe depression, or maybe just experimentation. But either way, he's letting his drug addiction come between him and his relationships. His friends are trying to reach out to him and express their concern, but he doesn't want their love because he doesn't see anything wrong with what he's doing. He is caught up in his "sick, sad little world" of addiction, so to speak. | |

I think everyone is looking at this song too simply, as if the guy is just using her for sex, and throwing her out, but I think there's a lot more to it than that. I believe it's about a troubled relationship between two people. First of all, it says "You met Jane four years ago today," meaning they've probably known each other for a while, which I don't think he would just be using her if they've known each other for four years. It probably signifies that they've had a very long relationship, and like most relationships, it tends to have a lot of problems over time. It says he met her at "vomit-stained frat party," which probably means he was just looking to party and get laid. "Her newspaper gown, glowing headline brown, her violent gypsy dance, her tired underpants" probably means she was looking for attention, and was just flaunting herself to get. So when the two met and got involved, he was probably in it for the sex, whereas she was wanting attention, and to feel loved. However, the two ended up growing close to each other. "Jane let you touch and feel her, and she was so free like a pineapple in a tree" probably means that she got to be very comfortable with him and felt free. "You said it's dangerous to be so intimate" is probably a way of saying the closer they grow, the more they'll fight, the more they'll get sick of each other, and the more likely they'll be to hurt each other. "And Jane said when she laid on her back, the sun hit her body like an ugly landscape." I think this is a way of saying they're still together and still having sex, but the feeling just isn't there anymore, "the sun" showing the "ugly landscape" is a way of saying they know they're just having sex, but they both know the relationship is going downhill, and the feeling isn't there anymore. "But somet things never get better, like used cars and bad livers, so you traded her in for a better looking brand" - he thinks the relationship won't get better, so he gets rid of her and gets a new girl who is obviously just using because of her looks. "Back at the hospital, you've got not visitors at all, she visits you in your sleep, but that newspaper gown is always on fire." - he has no visitors, especially not Jane, but she "visits" him in his sleep is a way of saying, he is regretting what he has done, but there's nothing he can do about it now, because the car wreck probably left him in very bad shape, permantly. But she has gotten over the relationship and goes out once again looking for love, and meets a new guy. "She met him a week after you left her, when you tossed out her touch to the garbage collector. He talked her out of his skirt in his beer-soaked apartment," - After he got rid of her, she went out once again looking for attention, and ended up having sex with a low-life who is using her for sex, "and they did all the things you never said that you wanted." Even though he got rid of her, he realizes how much he loves her, and he never wanted it to turn out like this, he never wanted her to go out and have sex with someone else. "And the sirens are laughing underneath your skull, and your thoughts are turning dull, callous, and cold. Yesterday you gave your burden a name, yesterday you gave your burden a face, but your burden looks an awful lot like her." - As a result of his wreck, he is probably very damaged and can't do much, and probably received very serious brain damage. All he can really do is think about what he did, and thinking about her burdens him. In conclusion, the song title "Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Wreck" is ironic because it's like saying love is a hideous car wreck. One moment, you're driving, and the wreck just hits you without even realizing it, and there's nothing you can do to stop it, and afterwards, there's no fixing it. |

| Underoath – A Boy Brushed Red ... Living In Black And White Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| The idea I get from this song is that it's about a boy and a girl in a relationship, both virgins, who follow temptation and decide to have sex for the first time, and are realizing that their choice has ultimately affected their lives, and has taken their relationship to a whole new level that they probably weren't ready for. Anyone agree? | |

This song reminds me of a girl I know who I quickly became really great friends with. We talked all the time and she really helped me out with a lot of things. We were really close friends for a while, but we eventually began to get into small arguments that lead to bigger arguments, and finally we stopped talking to each other. For a while I felt bad and really missed her. Then I found out that she was trying to spread rumors about me to people, including my friends and lied about our whole friendship. With this in mind, I began to realize what a shallow person she had become and that I shouldn't have to feel sorry for myself over someone like this, and that I didn't have to miss her, that I was stronger than that. This song basically sums up my feelings on this whole situation in my life. Strangely, this girl and I have recently become friends again, after she made small attempts to talk and joke around. I asked her if we could put the past behind us, and become friends again. Though we don't talk as often as maybe I'd like, I'm still really glad. |
