Punk is dead? Punk"was" dead. Think about it, this song was made in 1978 and it talks about the Clash. This is the fucking year 2003!!! punk came back a long time ago. look at the scene today. look at the bands like Aus-Rotten, the Casualties, Defiance, the Virus, the Unseen,a Global Threat, Clit 45, and so on. These bands prove punk isn't dead. Sure there are poser "punk" bands like GC, blink-182, sum-41 but that's mainstream. Punk and mainstream are 2 completely different scenes. That's why i don't even watch MTV, it doesn't concern me. Some people say that bands like the Clash sold out but they were just never punk in the first place. i can see all of you have very different opinions and that's o.k but some of you are just totally off. Yes, punk rock did start off as just a music genre but now it is so much more. the true meaning of punk lies in the muic. you know...the words. Rebellion, thinking for your self, not conforming, etc. it's all part of the music.MTV is trying to take that away from us. Our clothes used to go along with the rebellion thing but now we aren't rebelling against anything because it's cool to be "punk" now. hey fruitcakeisgood, i listen to the Casualties, anti-flag, and the unseen and i don't remember them saying in their songs you have to have a mohawk, studded belts and shit to be a punk. If anything they criticize the people who think that. They sing about being yourself and not conforming to the media and i don't think they're being hypocritical either. But i think your refering to what the media(MTV) says is punk. These bands are considered popular because they have that look but i'm sure they have never actually said " I'm punk because of my mohawk." But actually that look is old school '77 style punk rock. They are oi bands and that's how they dress. |
