| As Cities Burn – The Widow Lyrics

I think that line refers to his physical father. Any man has the capability to be a father; daddy implies affection and warmth. His mom is telling him (and his bothers) that the man that helped bring them into the world, is not their dad, simply their "father." However, in the same line he addresses his mom as "mother" - just thought of that. God can be called Daddy as well, He is personal too.
The line:
"But I believe there is something here to be learned of grace, 'cause I can't help but love you"
is awesome. It parallels God's love to us - we can love simply because He loved us first (because He chose to). |

| Relient K – Be My Escape Lyrics

This song is awesome; it's about giving your life to God and putting your trust in Him. THE VIDEO LEADS YOU TO BELIEVE THIS IS ABOUT A GIRL, IT IS NOT.
"I fought You for so long
I should have let You in
Oh how we regret those things we do
And all I was trying to do was save my own skin
But so were You"
How can a girl save his skin and from what? He was running from God and then realized that he should put his trust in God. I was upset that the last part of the song is omitted from the video - not cool. |

Good points eternalstroke. Lewis ends the first chapter (Men Without Chests) with "We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst." Very similar to a lyric from the song. Both Lewis and Thrice are awesome. |

I never thought of it like that fixxpanel - good points. Oh, and I don't know what book I was thinking of by Lewis, but that I was wrong about "Abolition of Man" is about. |

| mewithoutYou – Tie Me Up! Untie Me! Lyrics

I agree with you SickandTired, he wants the girl and she distracts him from God - "like a needle she leads me away from everything good (Well, I follow like a thread)".
He knows he shouldn't follow her and that he should trust in God and His love thus the meaning for the song (Tie Me Up! Untie Me!), it's an internal struggle.
At the end where he says "But you untie me - didn't you untie me, Lord?" is another reference to the needle and thread lyric from before. He is no longer attached to the needle (the girl) and he can began to follow God.
This is just what I think - great song though. |

I was reading Numbers (in the Bible) the other day and came across Numbers 13:33. "We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them." I love that verse. |

Good verses jaycar2a. mewithoutYou is a Christian band, I don't know who all knew that. I have found other verses that match with some of their songs (the grasshopper line in January 1979). Good song. |

Personally I think this is about God, not a girl; C.S. Lewis was an atheist then became a Christian. Thrice are big Lewis fans, Abolition of Man is a song as well as a book by Lewis (about the depravity of Man and how Man needs God). |

First of all, I'm glad this site is back up. Second of all, this is my favorite song off the new CD. Not too sure what the meaning is, but the song is amazing. |

Actually, awhile back I stumbled onto something about Star Wars and A New Hope. I immediately thought of this song. Apparently, there is a musical score from the Star Wars movie called "A New Hope". This could just be a coincidence.
I put it into a search engine and found a couple sites.

This is one of my favs too. So many people only know "Drive" and other recent singles. In my opinion, their music (instruments) was better than it is now. I always wondered what was said at the end, I figured it was played backwards. |

Wy arent bands allowed to change? Nearly everyone complains about a band changing. If everyone was the same they were 10 years ago, life would be boring. I admit, this isn't my personal favorite STP song, but it still is good. And I personally like the Tiny Music album, it's one of my favorites. |

I think this song is based on a true story in which the lead singer saved a girl who whose drowning in the water. It makes sense to me. |
