I very much agree with anarchy. Ignition as a whole doesn't get the attention it deserves. Since it was before Offspring was a big hit, it's themes are much harder and darker. This song like Amazed or End of the line show who deep a punk band can be |

Sure everyone here will say things like "Best song ever" etc etc. But The point is the song got as much air play as it did, and thats important since Offpsing is a much better band than the crap singles they release like "Pretty Fly" or "Original Prankster" show. In fact, as a rule the first single or so off an Offspring Album are normally some of the worst songs on the Album. Look at Smash: Smash, Genocide, So Alone, It'll be a long time are all far better songs lyrically and musically than Self Esteem or Keep em seperated. On Americana: End of the Line, Have you ever, Kid's aren't all right are all much better than Pretty Fly. Thank god such a powerful Offspring song is so well known |

Sure the song is about a broken heart, but the things she describes can only really be understood by someone who goes through a bad breakup after a long relationship. ("I now for sure that your home, but I just have to pass on by") This song personifies that sinking feeling in your stomach when you see something of your ex's (You left behind some clothes My belly summersaults when I pick them off the floor"), or a blindsided by a memory of them. In addition it shows how we rarely went to know exactly why a relationship failed, but would rather preserve that person in our mind as they were |

This song is a drugs monologue to its user. It details all the things it will do to you ("I'll mess up your life I'll beat up your wife I'll lose all your friend" ). A "joker" is a fool, good for a laugh, but you don't want them around: a good description of a drug user. The song is very dark, telling us time and time again that the final result of drugs is your life: ("And I'll win in the end" "I'll laugh when your down" "And I'll love you to death") |
