Maroon 5 – Harder To Breathe Lyrics 21 years ago
I kind of compare this song to Jason Mraz's "The Remedy" because that was his hit and although I really like this song and that one, they do seem a bit cheap. Both of the songs are more pop-y than many of their other songs. Also, both Maroon 5 and Jason Mraz have other awesome songs and I really couldn't say which ones I like the best because they are all amazing in each of their own ways. This song I think is basically a "love gone sour" song. I don't think this is what its about but its funny how some of the lines really could relate to drugs though, hmm...

That's not really a stretch about the spirit, that's what i thought right away so it obviously isn't that much of a stretch if we both thought that gravitydefiant. Although, I would have to argue that they are famous. Everyone around here [where i live] knows them and loves them.

Oh, also the line "i turn on mtv the volume's down
lips move..." that goes with the WOO/DSM connection i was talking about, you watch the movie with the volume down and all the talking is blocked out you just hear the cd, but im stuck on the "...they say it'll be ok" part.

I like that, very creative... especially "Come back down here I'll show you where it hurts" goes perfectly as if the person is always high. good thinking...

Guster – Center Of Attention Lyrics 21 years ago
i really feel like this song is about more than just being the center of attention and just knowing the band it doesnt seem like they would write a song strictly about what the title implies. who are the two people? what kind of relationship do they seem to have? thats sort of what i'm stuck on, it seems they are either friends disagreeing on something or possibly two people fighting over someone. i think it might be about how when you think you're right about something NO one else can be right and its just you who's right. you block out any one else's ideas and are the "center of attention in the walls inside [your] head"

Yeah, that is a really sweet line. I've been pondering the Wizard of Oz / Dark Side of the Moon connection and i decided to do some research. I discovered there is a well-known connection between the two and you're supposed to watch the Wizard of Oz to the cd Dark Side of the Moon. So, today i tried this.... it lines up perfectly (start the cd right after the mgm lion's third and final roar) and watch the credits and every exaggerated action goes to the music. Plus, the song's are titled for each scene like "brain damage" for when Dorothy meets the scarecrow. The song's go perfectly to the music and its obvious that Pink Floyd wrote this entire cd in sync with the Wizard of Oz. The cd ends with the sound of a heartbeat as Dorothy and the Scarecrow listen to the Tin-Man's chest. If you let the cd loop you will see that it still goes in sync with the movie especially at the Tin-Man's dance. I can't really find many more references the WOO/DSM connection in this song though. If anyone can think of anymore on this, please share your thoughts.

could this song possibly be about columbus day? first look at the entire first verse, then random lines and phrases throughout like "we're singing a new song now," "our fearless crew," "back home." maybe? or a friend of mine said maybe september 11 but i dont really make the connection throughout, but maybe i dont know.

Guster – What You Wish For Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song is about taking someone for granted. the narrator is a person who is playing the "lazy" part in a relationship where the other person is more enthusiastic about the relationship... by playing the lazy part i mean you're sort of like "yeah, alright, whatever..." and the other person in the morning is trying to wake you up and you're just like "close all the curtains and cover my head" like get out of my face and just let me put the blankets over my head so i can get back to sleep. then that person dreams that they lose what they had in this relationship, and once they realize what their life Would be like without that person after waking up they are like "wait, nevermind what i said before" as if trying to persuade the person to stay with them after they had been so unthoughtful. They say "And what you wish for could come true" to this person who was about to say "forget it"

I really like your idea though, botldfizzywater, that makes perfect sense. And strat7785, i definately thought about that before the wizard of oz comparison. In the person's dream, he says "crashed down in oz, not black and white but where the colors are..." as if in the movie when they get to Oz and the movie's in color then. I never thought about the whole song being compared to it but now that i think of it there are definately more parts compared to it i think like "woke up today to everything gray" (the black and white at the beginning of the movie) and now i remember wasn't the whole movie a dream of Dorothy's when she hit her head somewhere or something. Also, this probably doesn't make sense, but she went to a psychic and the psychic told her something bad like about her aunt and that could maybe coincide with "if this serenade is not what you want..."

i spent an hr and 1/2 car ride trying to determine the meaning of this song with my dad and we came up with this.... its about generations making the same mistakes as the one before them, and doing the same things whether they wanted to or just felt obligated to
