| Mourning Widows – The Air That You Breathe Lyrics

The lines that hit me when I listen to this song are in the chorus: "Sometime I think I'm better off dead...But then if I'm dead, they'll bury my head." So to me this song is about being tired of (or bored or frustrated with) life and not getting what you want, pining for and end but not really wanting to be dead and forgotten. |

| Blind Faith – Can't Find My Way Home Lyrics

Sometimes I listen to this song on repeat on my CD player. And I LOVE playing it on my acoustic guitar while belting it out or singing it soulfully to myself. If I had to pick ONE song that described "my head", THIS WOULD BE IT! I would probably say this is my all-time favorite song at this point in my life. |

| The Who – How Many Friends Lyrics

A lot of times, when I am involved in a discussion about friends, loyalty, family, etc., I find myself quoting Townshend's lyrics "I can count 'em all on one hand" |

I love this song so much, I covered it back in the day when I used to play coffee houses. Accepting one's faults is empowering. Singing those lyrics (especially the chorus) into a microphone in front of a crowd is pretty cool too! |

This is my favorite song to sing along to when I am driving. It FREAKS me out when Townshend incorrectly sings, "I can lay in bed" as it should be "I can LIE in bed". He's ENGLISH for God's Sake!!! Poetic liscence is one thing, but poor English from an Englishman? Tsk Tsk Mr. Townshend :P You're still my favorite though! |

| The Who – Don't Let Go The Coat Lyrics

I heard Townshend wrote this about his Guru, Meher Baba. As a devotee of Gurumayi Chidvilasananda, I completely relate to the lyrics of this song. When things get tough, I hang onto the coat of my Guru too. |

A lot of times my mood can be summed up with Kurt's lyrics, "I found it hard, it's hard to find...oh well, whatever, nevermind."
I thought, at the very end, he was not singing "the Denial" but, rather, singing "Bloody Nail, Bloody Nail" (of course I was singing along pronouncing it bloody "nie yuhl" (nail) and if you think I'm an idiot, my ex-husb thought he was saying "Cut his eye out, Cut his eye out" which, in my opinion, would have been a cool lyric in it's own right!!! |

| The Beatles – I'm Looking Through You Lyrics

This song has my all-time favorite lyrics in it; "Love has a nasty habit of disappearing overnight." You may call me bitter or pessimistic but, I am a realist and as such, this lyric touches me deepest. I "love" Paul for having the insight and courage to say it. It's the truth whether we like it or not. |

| Nuno Bettencourt – Crave Lyrics

Crave is a great song describing a longing for another whom, for one reason or another, you can't have. Admit it, you've at least felt this one time in your life for someone!!! It can be the most ecstatic and painful feeling simultaneously!
The words "a prisoner, I'm the warden too" can't be more true to me as it is always we who are in total control of our emotional state be it positive or negative.
When Nuno sings, "If Moses truly parted the sea, then can I quit smoking? My miracles run weak, yes they do," my heart resonates. Admitting our own human shortcomings is never easy. Knowing others have overcome them is empowering.
To me, these are the 2nd greatest lyrics in rock and roll (topped only by the Beatles lyrics; "Why, tell me why do you not treat me right? Love has a nasty habit of disappearing overnight!" ~I'm Looking Through You). |

| Extreme – Hole Hearted Lyrics

This could be interpreted as a spiritual song where the "you" is God. It could be a song reflecting the longing for a true love. To me, Whole Hearted portrays the frustration of looking to an earthly lover (i.e. human being) to satiate one's mortal desire for wholeness that can only be fulfilled by a true connection to the "Source" within our own selves. |

| Extreme – More Than Words Lyrics

Since the writers of More Than Words are purportedly "Christians", I doubt the song was written about a sexual conquest - although, that interpretation is certainly justifiable :)
To me, the Lover is simply telling the Beloved, "Actions Speak Louder Than Words!!!"
In my personal experience (I'm almost 40), if the relationship has gotten to the point where there is THAT much doubt, it's time to MOVE ON and not cross your fingers and hope the object of your affection will suddenly turn into a good catch.
So, although I LOVE the music and even learned how to play in on the guitar when it came out, the words (and unfortunately this is the case for most Extreme songs AND love songs in general) are whiney and pathetic crys from people who are afraid to end relationships for fear of being alone. |
