Have you ever felt that your life was going so badly that all you could do was kill yourself? I think you're a complete asshole for treating such a serious sunject to so many people as a total joke. This song helped me to realize that there is a better way out than killing myself. When fights with my parents got so bad that I had a knife in my hand, ready to kill myself. I would play this song to help calm me down. Do not insult me beacuse you feel that I didn't have the balls to do it. When you can see the song through my eyes, then you can give your opinion as to the joke nature of this song.
The lyrics, as well as the emotion which Mark Hoppus sings it with, make it an incredible song. I am sure that it had helped many people through tougher times, as it did for me. I don't think that other people would find it funny that you were laughing at a song that is so personal to them. I pose a question to you: Do you have a song that is so personal to you, that every time you listen to it, you are reminded of certain events in your life that have changed you and helped you out during harder times? |

What a hyppocrite...you say that you don't want to be harassed, and yet you do the exact same thing when someone else doesn't agree with you. I stated that this song is NOT a joke song, and that it did have meaning to Mark Hoppus, and me for one, and you still insist that you're right. You insult the fact that I was close to killing myself. I am very defensive of the issue, and I don't like being criticised because of it. Because you are not a fan of the band, how could you possibly say whether or not the song was written because Mark was lonely on tour?

Why do you feel the need to come on here and berate other people for liking good music. If you hate it, so what. This is a place where people come to talk about the meanings to songs, not to say "This band sucks, they have no talent, etc. etc. " Nobody cares that you don't like the band. Are you even a fan of blink 182? I have their autobiography. Mark Hoppus states in it that, during their long tour stints, some of their songs were written about being lonely...like Adam's Song. Who gives a shit if they named it after some show that was on ten years ago. How the fuck would you even know that that's what the whole song is about? |

It's an interesting interpretation, I'll give you that much. I can see how you can see that when the liner notes from this album do indeed mention the cure and the other bands. The Untitled new album does indeed mark a new direction for blink, but I don't think that they would turn their backs on their roots; the album has different influences, but theyr started off playing SoCal punk rock...any musician that forgets his roots and wht he starts out playing can never become a better musician |

Mark actually wrote the song when he was lonely on tour. It also has a strong suicidal meaning to it. The line "I traced the cord back to the wall, No wonder it was never plugged in at all" is about one time when Tom was standing in a puddle of water and he turned his amp on. He traced the cord to the wall, but it wasn't pluuged in. Had it been plugged in, he would have been electrocuted.
And another thing: Why the fuck would you losers spend all your time bitching on a message board about song meanings about how much the band sucks. You complain how badly they suck, and they they're "posers" and yet you can't stop talking about them. Get a life. Either you really like them and you just want to stir the shit, or you have nothing better to do. Just piss off. |

There's no way that they would dis the Desendents on this album....they were one of blink's main influences I am huge blink fan, and there's no way that that lyric is in reference to that particular song. This song is about what it sings about...not being able to get away when it should be done. Don't try to sound so profound...take the song at face value. |

Well, I AM the biggest blink fan ever, and if you don't like them, then fuck off. Who are you guys to say that this is a poser song. If all you can do to every blink song is write poser song, you have no life whatsoever. I play guitar, and while I do admit that blink songs aren't the hardest to play, they are still good musicians. Scott was a mediocre drummer, Travis has had YEARS of professional music study. The band never would have been this bigf with Scott in the lineup. The guitar that Mark and Tom play fits the whole punk rock genre, morons. They wouldnt be punk rock if they played solos all the time. I they're so easy to play, how come you guys don't sell out shows in major venues?

When they perform it live Mark sings "Give up all your hope and go back inside." The song lyric actually means turn your back on hope, not what you may think. Fuckin kick ass song though. |
