Tegan and Sara – You Wouldn't Like Me Lyrics 21 years ago
It has to be about some long distance/online relationship.

Possibly the person was in love with this person online, and then maybe they met, and he realized he didn't like her? Or possibly she's just saying that since she doesn't like herself, how could anyone else like her?

She mentions that he doesn't call anymore, and it's bringing her down, but there's still time, and she washes the windows, waiting for this person to come by.

Bright Eyes – Laura Laurent Lyrics 21 years ago
I don't think this song is about suicide, but then again, it's impossible to know.

I think it's simply about this person named Laura who the singer once knew. He's first asking if she's upset, and he talks about how she use to go to "west to Chicago", and now she's too depressed for even that.

"To stroll through the greenery in the park past the statues
How their eyes seemed to follow you like a hated addiction
Their beauty carved out of absolutes that you could never claim
Or even envision"

Their beauty that she couldn't claim - possibly self-esteem issues. She wanted to be beautiful like the statues, who were still, stable and perfect. But he [the singer] thinks says, "I thought you were beautiful", but her sadness was something he couldn't deal with and they both ended up being hurt.

The next part about the "sleeping bag" on the carpet is just him thinking about the times he spent with her, and her Sister who was worried about her - because she knows Laura is easily hurt. And then the singer "betrayed" Laura, because he gave up, so he feels gulity. "We're quick to surrender". Obviously a problem from both ends, but he takes the blame.

At the end he's simply saying that you shouldn't be upset at the fact that you have a hard time dealing with relationships, friendships, and just life in general, because it just makes you more human in the end, and that the one's who've suffered the most "have done the most singing", like he is.

Marduk – Panzer Division Marduk Lyrics 21 years ago
It's quite obviously about leading some sort of holy Satanic war against Christianity, and it's put into the context of a World War II-type situation.

Sarah McLachlan – Fallen Lyrics 21 years ago
Another one of those songs that can be interpreted in many ways.

I personally think it's about getting into a relationship, thinking "this is going to last forever", even though the person she's with doubts that, because he knows her better.

Anyway, they get into a relationship, and she messes up. She either loses interest, gets sidetracked, gets busy with life, and she's saying, "Don't come around saying 'I told you so'". It's almost like she's saying that she KNOWS her faults. And she KNOWS she messed up, and she doesn't need to hear it from everyone, because she hears it from herself all the time.

Hence, "truth be told I've tried my best". She tried her hardest with this person, but "the cost was so much more then I could bear", meaning she couldn't put up with it. So she's fallen. She sunk. She feels like crap because of what she's done. Her friends want to stand by her, but she feels gulity, because she KNOWS it's her fault. So she's wondering if they're really friends or not.

"We believe that we could change ourselves", she's referring to herself. She told herself that she wouldn't do this again, but she ended up doing it anyway.

Anyway, that's how I saw it.

He's basically saying all this shit is happening and no one does anything or even cares (our governments, for example), so it's time to make a stand.

Anti-Flag – Turncoat Lyrics 21 years ago
"Turncoat, killer, lier, thief
Criminal with protection of the law"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this song has GOT to be about Bush or some other brutal dictator. It just makes too much sense. They kill with the protection of the law.

Also, anyone remember Bush's "you're either with us or against us" line after 9/11?

Well, this song, "With your own against you? Then I am against you because you're a...". It all adds up in the end.

"The bitterness of one who's left alone".

There's so much truth in that one line.

Third Eye Blind – Motorcycle Drive By Lyrics 22 years ago
This song starts off with him in Chelsea, meeting someone. Possibly his girlfriend? He says he doesn't know what he's doing, so obviously something not right here. He's sleeping on the couch - we all know something is wrong here. Something is wrong with his relationship with this girl.

He says he feels stupid for chasing her like this, and he knows he can't win no matter what anymore.

"I've never been so alone, but I've never been so alive". He means that even though he's alone now, it's not a start. Every ending has a new beginning, and he realizes that.

"Visions of you on a motorcycle drive by". He's thinking back to how things use to be with her. They were careless, they didn't care about anything, they probably loved eachother.

"I hope you take a piece of me with you". He doesn't want her to forget him, because this relationship did mean a lot to him.

"I would like to build something". He's possibly refeering to the relationship, saying that he'd like to have a decent relationship, but "you don't see it happening". He knows she's hopeless.

"And there's this burning". It hurts no matter what he does, but he realizes it's time to let go.

"New York City is evil". He can't stand the city anymore. It's driving him crazy. He's obviously just sick of it all, and his relationship has totally fallen apart.

"This is the last time we'll be friends". He knows this is the end, and he can't do anything about it anymore. It's obvious that once he leaves this place and goes back home, he won't ever talk to her again, because this will the end of their relationship.

"I'll get over you, you'll wonder who I am". I think this means that it probably will be a LONG time before they ever talk again. Obviously, things will be different by then, and he'll be a different person.

"I go home to the coast". This means he's gone back home, and left the girl now. "Taste the salt and taste the pain" = He's still in pain. No matter what, it STILL hurts him.

"I'm not thinking of you again". He lies to himself, saying he's not thinking of her, but he is. This is evident in the way he says "So alive". It has a certain sense of meloncholy to it.

"And I've never been so alone, and I've, never been so alive" = It's a new start for him. He's hurt, but it's a new start, and a new chance at building a new relationship for him.

Luna Sea – I For You Lyrics 22 years ago
This song is so depressing.

He's simply talking about how he loves some girl, but she's afraid. She's been hurt too many times, and she's always sad.

He's saying that he loves her, with all his heart, and that he just wants to be with her. In the final lines of the song, he says he wants to "catch all the light and give it all to you" (I'm not sure how correct that is), meaning that he loves her beyond everything, and would give her anything.

Such a pretty song.

Garbage – Drive You Home Lyrics 22 years ago
This song is amazing. Probably my favourite song by Garbage. This is what I think it means (or at least what it means to me).

She starts off talking about how it's ironic, that even though she treats her boyfriend/whatever like crap, he still loves her. It's almost as if she feels bad about it.

The next line "I never said I was perfect", she's clearly saying that this is just the way she is, and she has faults.

The next part "I leap down your throat", meaning how insecure she is about herself. She doesn't want to lose this guy, even though she knows she's emotionally abusing him.

"I got down on myself..".. Now she's talking about herself. It's obvious that she hasn't had a great life, and she probably suffers from low self-esteem. She probably really loves this guy, but she can't bring herself to his level. She has strong feelings towards him, and tries to change, but fails. Because she can't. She's only herself and no one else. And it's starting to hurt her.

"I'm praying for a miracle". She wishes something great will just happen to the both of them, and they'll be content with eachother. She probably hates the fact that she's emotionally abusing this guy, but she loves him too much, and will let go if she has to. She mentions, "I won't hold my breathe". Meaning that if worse comes to worse, she'll have to leave him. Even though she loves him, she won't be able to put up with this anymore.

Anyway.. That's just what it means to me. I guess these lyrics mean a lot to me, since I've been on the opposite end of these lyrics.
