The Smashing Pumpkins – The Crying Tree of Mercury Lyrics 22 years ago
This seems to be a scream from Billy's subconscious that comes up every so often. The title is very obscure and poetic. It seems to be like a poem that he wrote really late at night, when he was flooded with emotion and confused and frustrated with a few different things in his life.

The Smashing Pumpkins – God Lyrics 22 years ago
I think its sort of about the corruption of the Church. "I hope God forgives me For my transgressions" is maybe about buying forgiveness, a practice from the Church of the middle ages. "When the darkness comes to me And fixes it's gaze on me" is maybe in reference to the Dominicans and the Inquisition? Or perhaps its just a really angst-y song. That interpretation works as well. Pissed off by the pressure of the Church and Sin and Heaven and Hell.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Go Lyrics 22 years ago
I get sort of a Cupid and Psyche feel from this. The story from Greek mythology is Cupid is in love with Psyche, but is a god and cannot be with mortals, but secretly gets together with her and they live together, but she isn't allowed to see him or his face, but she loves him. Psyche's jealous sisters trick her to try to see what he looks like, and she does one night, and he leaves because of her breaking her promise to him. I'm sure I messed that up, so find a version of the story and read it yourself.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Blank Lyrics 22 years ago
He wishes to purge himself of all feelings, to cleanse his mind, soul, and heart until he is blank. "I'd write a letter to you and there'd be nothing to it" perhaps about writing a letter to a lover and not caring anymore. "I pray my soul to sleep I wish myself away" are lines maybe about sleeping or dying? In some way, losing consciousness and conscious feeling.

The Smashing Pumpkins – The Everlasting Gaze Lyrics 22 years ago
During the Machina era, the Pumpkins had some conflict with their record company, Virgin. Later, the Pumpkins released Machina II for free and told people to distribute it everywhere, to spite Virgin and to be friendly to fans :). "forever waiting on the ways of your desire" could be in reference to how bands have to mold their creativity to fulfill the requirements of their labels. "forgotten touch forbidden thought we can never have enough you know i'm not dead" this verse could be about the soul of the pumpkins being shut down and stifled by Virgin. "found below the creatures scream stranglehold a god machine" seems to be a verse about the record company, a god machine because it is playing God in a sense, controlling what is released and what isn't and what is made and what is deleted.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Bye June Lyrics 22 years ago
I feel this song is a ballad of hope and yearning for a goal. Perhaps leaving for a distant place or new home. Going to the moon is maybe a metaphor for a dark, mysterious destination. The main lyric and title suggests that you're leaving behind someone, something.
