I always relate this song to another reportedly about prohibition "Powderfinger" by Neil Young.
Actually if you play this song followed by Powderfinger it almost tells a linking story of what happened to the son and the bootleg camp after Mama called the Law.
Just a coincidence |

| The Who – Naked Eye Lyrics

Read about the abandoned Who album entitled "Lifehouse" To me Naked Eye was evolved from jams during "My Generation" in 1969 to become it's own song by 1970. The lyrics describe certain aspects of the storyline for the concept album "Lifehouse" I think the lyrics are from both characters "Bobby" and "Jumbo" point of view.
"Both think we know what's right, Both Know we know whats wrong" really sums it up. especially since "Behind Blue Eyes" is Jumbo's theme where he describes how hard it is to be trying to do what you believe is right, only to have it criticized by some who disagree. |

This song is about Gary crashing and yes Oak tree and house (Collins and Van Zant wrote the song) USCOTT is dead on, also Allen crashed in '86 his girlfriend was killed, he was paralyzed , both of his daughters are fine and both still alive today, one even lives in the house Allen built. As for the smell of people who don't bath and do drugs, the lyrics clearly state the SMELL OF DEATH SURROUNDS YOU , clearly it is because he almost died, and if he kept up his addiction would end up dead in the not to distant future |

ok maybe the song isn't about drugs, but Plant does reference acupulco gold, it was said he says it in how the west was won, he also says it in two of the earls court concerts and the 29th at MSG 1973, so obviously the "druggies" as someone stated arent exactly wrong. Maybe not right, but Plant obviously sees the connection too. |

Ya I agree with it being about death and the paths you take in life, and the piper idea that he is evil is also a good one, I think that the reference to people hearing humming in there head, and if you listen very hard the tune will come to you at last, I think that has to do with how people always say its time to fac the music ... In this case the music being death , so its time to face the music like everyone else your time has come |
