Pretty straight forward. He's feeling rage and containing it, and trying to use it to his advantage. |

He's feeling a bit pressured to do something with his life, looking back and thinking about the choices he made. This is a really awesome song, by the way. |

I like this song. The music is catchy and upbeat and it has a clear message that criticizes gender roles. Sadly, things aren't much different 25 years later. |

| Le Tigre – On Guard Lyrics

In an interview, Hanna said she wrote it because she was sick of strangers whistling and yelling comments at her on the street. On a similar note, watch War Zone. It's a film about street harrassment. |

It reminds me of some of my friendships, too. It's sad how so many people are just so resistant to change and to consider new ideas. Most people are just boring to me because they don't want to talk about anythng challenging. |

I think this is a song about how she did a lot for a friend but then the friend hurt her so now she has turned herself off to that person entirely. |

Great song! Most people can relate - at some point, we were all just going with the flow, trying to fit in, but then somewhere along the line you acquire the confidence to be yourself. |

Crank this song up in your car and sing it as loud as possible, it's been great therapy for me :) |

| Sleater-Kinney – You're No Rock N' Roll Fun Lyrics

I like it too! When I first saw the video for it, I was kind of surprised to see them doing the generic "band playing and dancing around" video. I mean, they've only made 2 thus far, you'd think they'd want to make another really deep and meaningful one, ya know?
But then I was thinking it IS a fun video, and maybe there is also a little sarcasm in it? Like they're poking fun at all the sugary pop singers or something? Opinions? |

What a kick ass song! She sounds so bitter yet so hurt. The way she begs "stay..." then wails "AWAY," just gets me every time! |

Great song! I can appreciate the theme of them not conforming to societal standards. Also, there's the importance of looking inwards to discover one's self rather than allowing outside circumstances to mold you into some kind of artificial entity. |

I love this song! I'm not sure what it means, but I live the part about the "three chord song." :-)
Also, for all you drummers, I've been working on tabbing this song, check http://tk-jk.net/S-K/index.html, it should be up soon! |

ditto.
Really though, as simple as the music is, the song just has such depth, and the way she sings about shame and her having to hide, geez, it's just a beautiful song. |

| Sleater-Kinney – I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone Lyrics

I don't think this song goes as deep as their other ones do. I mean, it's ironic to look back on now because they wrote it before they got to be well-known, so it's kind of funny in that aspect. In general, though, I agree with the other comments but just think that this song needs to be taken with a grain of salt. |

| Sleater-Kinney – Hollywood Ending Lyrics

I just love this song! It's a great shot at the fakeness and snobbishness of Hollywood, and also a kind of relieving reminder that after 6 albums and several offers from major record labels, these ladies would never compromise themselves for fame and fortune. |

| Dillinger Four – file under "ADULT URBAN CONTEMPORARY" Lyrics

A wonderful criticism of the corrupt lawmakers and white-collar workers that make things difficult for the rest of us Americans. Plus, most of the songs like this I listen to have a darker and harder sound, so it's refreshing to hear a poppier kind of sound yet still with meaningful lyrics. |

| Knuckle Sandwich – Double Speak Lyrics

I like these lyrics a lot. I agree with every word Richie says. Unfortunately, we live in a world where it matters not what you do but instead what words you use to describe what you do. I'm so sick of politicians and other supposedly upstanding citizens talking their way out of the problems they create for themselves. |

Finally, someone wrote a straightforward yet light-hearted response to all the blame that people place on music. I agree totally. If listening to Marilyn Manson leads people to murder, then perhaps the music they're listening to isn't their biggest problem to begin with... |

| Excuse 17 – Code Red Lyrics

The lyrics are pretty straightforward here. Nonetheless, it's crafty how the music makes self-mutilation seem more like a personality quirk than a genuine problem. I think the fact that the music is perhaps not depressing as one would expect shows even more just how confused this girl is. |

Don't mess with Corin, plain and simple. She is a strong woman who needs her own space and does not like being messed around with. As is evident from this song, if you cross the line, she WILL rip your head off! |

| Sleater-Kinney – Taking Me Home Lyrics

The message here is very representative of a lot of early Sleater-Kinney songs. She just isn't ready to settle down yet, and is such a strong and independent woman that she realizes she can't continue to be in this apparently stifling relationship. |

| Sleater-Kinney – Sympathy Lyrics

|
This is a beautiful song that Corin wrote when her son, Marshall, was born premature. Once you know that, the meaning is pretty straightforward, but even so, the words and phrases are just so wonderful. "It's the grammar of skin / Peel it back, let me in." Anyone could write a song about her child, but how many could do it so graciously and at the same time with such depth and intensity? |

| Sleater-Kinney – God Is A Number Lyrics

When I first glanced at the title of this song, I figured it would be another typical rock song about atheism. Then I listened to it and realized it's more about how people are becoming more and more engulfed in technology and thus perhaps losing some of their humanity. |

| Sleater-Kinney – Hot Rock Lyrics

This song was inspired by an old James Bond movie which I believe is of the same title. I think the diction here is very deep and well thought out. I see it as a woman finally starting to see through a very superficial relationship. |

| Sleater-Kinney – The End of You Lyrics

I read in an interview that Corin wrote this song write after reading The Odyssey. Now the song makes a lot more sense to me! There are some direct references to the epic, although even if you haven't read it, you can take away a lot from the song, as far as it being about some kind of journey. |
