"The stars will cry, the blackest tears tonight, and these are the moments that i live for, I can smell the ocean air" whats going on in the song is simultaneously literal and metaphorical. The singer is at a beach, or somewhere off the ocean, that has meaning to the relationship he just got out of. The blackest tears refers to the rain, but also to the mourning for what he lost, because it seems he loved her very much. "Here i am pouring my heart on to these roof tops, just a ghost, to the world. That's exactly, exactly what i need. " Here the image of the rain is strengthened, and the idea that the world around the singer is reflecting his pain. The rainis pouring down onto him in this city that brings him so much pain. He feels alone, because the one he loves is gone, and the rain is the the cleansing of his body of all the pain he feels. "From up here the city lights burn, like 1000 miles of fire, and i'm here to sing this anthem of our dying day. " He imagines himself looking down upon the landscape, and he sees the lights of the city (i personally get a picture of the outer banks at night, with all the houses burning bright against the ocean, but thats because my painfuly wonderful memories reside there). The city has this life that he resents, and he feels like he is dying, and so he announces it to the world. "For a second i wish the tide, would swallow every inch of this city, as you gasp for air tonight. i'll scream this song right in your face, if you were here. " Here, he feels anger as a reaction to his pain and he can almost picture is pain and tears and the rain welling up and flooding the city that tortures him. the meaning of the second portion, is if you were here, id scream this song in your face as you gasp for air, the order was changed for rhyming reasons, but its self explanitory, the singer wants to tell her how much he resents what shes done to him, and show her what he has done in the wake of his pain. "I swear i won't miss a beat, cause i never, never have before." here the singer is closing his story. hes driven by anger and pain and doesnt know how to deal, so hes gripping to this picture of himself screaming every last sylable to the girl who destroyed him, because thats all that can satisfy his pain. So he screams it out, and doesnt miss a beat, just like every time before. things will get better. When i first bought pinkerton a few years back, i didnt yet have the world e_perience to really understand this song... now though, i almost cry when i hear it because it reminds me of several different occasions where my head was not running the show... I'm sorry for what I did I did what my body told me to I didn't mean to do you harm Everytime I pin down what I think I want It slips away The ghost slips away when you cross that line and become physical with someone you will regret being with later, you can really hate yourself for it. ive been there, im sure others of you have. the part that gets me the most though is "Smell you on my hand for days, I can't wash away your scent " vivid memory of fren_ily washing my hands because of the constant reminder of what i did that only i could detect. still gives me chills... keep your pants on kiddies, rivers says so... (pinkerton is the last good wee_er album!) |

hey guys, you know i just thought you all should be informed to one thing: TEARS FOR FEARS SUCKS WET MONKEY ASS MARINADED IN HOT MAN SEMEN!!!! disturbed is one of the most talented bands out there making music, but you gotta wonder why they would cover this song, i mean, they made a horrible song so good, couldnt they have made a better song themselves. FYI if you think that cover songs are never as god as the original, check out rage against the machine's album Renegades, the entire cd is covers, and most are better than the original, even the rolling stones cover. |
