this song is about taking all of the pain that the world gives you and turning it back on the world. whenever I hear it, I think of Professor Chaos/Butters from "South Park" |

This is not only my favorite Green Day song, but my favorite song, period. I love everything about it - the lyrics, the music, everything. The song is very vague and could be about almost anything, and that's why it works. The song is ageless because at any point in your life, you can relate to this song. Any time that one phase of life ends and another begins, the song is relevant. That's why I think this song would resonate with people of any age. |

If I would've known what I know today
I guess I wouldn't have it any other way
that might be my favorite lyric Goldfinger has ever written. so simple and yet so beautiful. |

To me, this song just goes hand in hand with Green Day's song "I Was There." That one is an optimistic, hopeful look at the future, and this one is bitter and pessimistic. Most people feel both of these feelings when they're growing up, and both songs perfectly describe the feelings. |

This song is about a girl that's leaving an abusive relationship to follow her dreams. the "punched her one too many times" line makes that pretty clear |

just to point this out - if you really want to chart Green Day's maturation over the years, listen to Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning in a row. "Armatage Shanks," the first song on Insomniac is about pessimism and dispair, and "Macy's Day Parade," the last track on Warning, is about hope. From pessimism to hope in 3 albums. |

I always see this song as the optimistic counterpoint to "16." "16" is insecure and afraid of the future while this song embraces the possibilities. The song seems to reflect the 2 distinct attitudes people have about growing up. |

I think he's singing to people who try to be something they're not. The line "you erased yourself" is what really makes me think this. Not to mention that "down on the front lines" could mean that he is singing to a portion of his audience... |

I have no insight into the blink-182 idea, but to me, this song is really introspective. I'm an aspiring comedian, and obviously, sometimes the jokes just fall flat. Coming off of a bad performance, this song perfectly describes my feeling toward myself. |
