| Me First and the Gimme Gimmes – One Tin Soldier Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Could there be some comparison made to a 'tin man', much like the one from the Wizard of Oz? If we recall, the Tin Man of the Oz story lacked a 'heart'. Could this be the significance? After the slaughter of the mountain people, the symbolic ONE tin soldier rides away could mean that the valley people were without a heart - and that nothing was learned from this experience. Why? Because of the wars and fighting that continue in the world - the 'Tin Soldier' who rode away from that battle on the mountain is the same Tin Soldier who fights in wars today. The singer seems to infer that those who fight in wars are without a heart. As this was a Joni Mitchell song from the 60's it is not coincidental that this could be a war protest song (Mitchell's antiwar stance was typical of the 'folk rockers' of the day). |

| Simon and Garfunkel – The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Any chance that this could be a reflection of a typical hippie-esque view of life? Some indicators - 1) "Slow down..." - mellow out, in other words. 2) "Got no deeds to do..." - not tied down, no job (he's wandering around with no purpose, other than to 'kick cobblestones' or 'talk to lamposts'.) 3) "Dappled and drowsy..." - on a drug high? ------------------- "Coincidence? I think not!" |

| Simon and Garfunkel – Bridge Over Troubled Water Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I recall this song became a source of tension for Simon and Garfunkle. Simon wrote the lyrics, but it was determined that the song was too short. Garfunkle added the "silver girl" verse, and Simon hated it! He felt it had nothing to do with the rest of the song and besides, it made no sense! Still, they used it. | |
| Fleetwood Mac – Hypnotized Lyrics | 22 years ago |
|
A song about Alien abduction, perhaps? Reference to a 'spaceship' in the first verse. 'THEY' got me hypnotized...could it be that he can't tell if it's a dream or reality because of something that was done to him so that he would have no clear recollection? 'Strange pond' - indicating that this body of water hadn't been at the location referred to, so it was 'man-made'. However, no evidence was available that the pond had been constructed by man...what does that leave? Would your imagination permit you to consider that aliens exist? |
