yeah, i agree with most of you on here...it is about a fight with a 'business associate' if you want to call it that...the guy was Ross Hoffman, dave's mentor, and here's a direct quote from dave about the song..."I was thinking about where I come from, and why I wrote songs and what was my inspiration," Matthews says. "And how I was in this situation where those things that I'd done, I so loved, had now suddenly become a source of incredible pain for me. Suddenly there's all this money, and people pulling, asking,"Where's mine?" The wild dogs come out. The innocence of just making music was kinda overshadowed by the dark things that come along with music & success. So it is a song of looking back, but at the same time adamantly looking forward and going, 'But I'm still going to carry on regardless.'"...just in case you all wanted to know... |

i think this song is sung from the perspective of a man at a coffee shop simply stirring his coffee and simply thinking. he's thinking about how jesus/god has turned His back on him. "forgive you? why? you hung me out to dry..." as though God wasn't there when dave needed him the most and now dave's paying him back by not worshiping/believing in Him...of course, thats just my opinion |

the version of this from the gorge is amazing...carter going nuts on the drums, and steffan ripping it up on bass and throught it all dave is just smilin' and playing and havin' a good time...dave is the best, you can't say otherwise |

for those who say this cd sucks...YOU SUCK...haha no just kidding, yeah i don't know if i like dave with an electric guitar but hey, everyday was done with the original acoustic. this song is just a pick-me-up song...gotta love it. |
