Matthew Bellamy once said in an interview that the song is actually about the time the band spent at home in Devon, trying to make it. Putting 120% of their energy in performances for 5 people at the local pub, but not even being given the chance to show what they could. The song is to be about the frustrations they experienced when scrubbing toilets for a living...not even being given the chance. |

It's said that the song is about the times he spent under the bridge (you can see this in every documentary on Cobain). Of course there might be deeper meenings to it. If you compare it to under the bridge by RHCP, you'll find that they're both about being under a bridge, but more about what happened under the bridge than actually about being under the bridge. As long as he's not there to tell you what it's about, any interpretation is just as good. |

According to Thom (as I've heard it), this song is indeed referring to the last U.S. election. As most people know; something went wrong with counting the votes. The brother of Mr. Bush, who's a gouvernor in Florida (I think it was), decided not to have a re-count and Bush became president with a majority of democrats in the senate.
2+2=5 is from the Hail to the Thief album (to be released on June 9th). The title of this album is also said to be a referral to the Bush administration and the way this man became president.
