| Radiohead – Anyone Can Play Guitar Lyrics | 22 years ago |
|
I always thought "destiny protect me from the world" had something to do with his hopes of being destined to become a rock star - if that was his path in life, to become rich and famous via guitar, he wouldn't have to worry about anything, his future would be secure, he would have everything he wanted and be seperated from the problems affecting everyone else in the world. That kinda seems to be the theme of the whole song to me - i want to be a rock star. I think just about any guitar player can connect with that. |

| Radiohead – The National Anthem Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| The driving bass line in this song has so much violent energy, it gives me the impression of an angry crowd on the brink of rioting. The lyrics seem to support this to me, giving voice to the sort of 'mob mentality' that causes these things in the first place - group confusion and spreading fear reach the boiling point. | |
| Radiohead – 2 + 2 = 5 (The Lukewarm) Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| 2+2=5 especially, and all the other sort of doublethink at the beginning, alludes to orwell's 1984, in my opinion. I can't really tell what it is he's repeating over and over, it sounds like he's saying "Cuz i'm mad" or "Cuz i'm not". Either way, i agree "hail to the thief" is probably a stab at Bush in particular, and anyone who takes power illegally in general. Lines like "don't question my authority or put me in the box cause i'm (mad/not)" and "going to the king cause the sky is falling down but it's not" seem to reinforce an overall theme about who holds power and consequently who gets to decide what is sane and what is not, much like in orwell's 1984. Thom doesn't seem to trust our elected officials a bit. | |
| Radiohead – Kid A Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| Ok, elaborating on my friend's pot induced dream theory of the plot behind this whole album (see my post in optimistic for more details) this song would be where the child kid a was to be cloned from was kidnapped. imagine a guy in a black cloak sneaking into a baby's bedroom in a small house on a snowy winter night, creeping up in the shadows at the foot of the infant's bed, and carrying him out of town. | |
| Radiohead – Optimistic Lyrics | 22 years ago |
| Pimp walking into the scene with a top hat and cane, mind you. | |
| Radiohead – Myxomatosis. (Judge, Jury, & Executioner.) Lyrics | 22 years ago |

greenplastic.com has a vital tidbit of info about this song: myxomatosis is a blood-borne virus that infects the brains of rabbits, making them go insane and die. Now that you know that, listen to the song again and picture that each time he says it. I tell ya, it gives me the chills, especially the lines "they were cheering and waving cheering and waving twitching and salivating like with myxomatosis" Absolutely creepy, you can picture the crowd cheering, and then they mutate horribly in your mind as Thom sings that last line. |

| Radiohead – Optimistic Lyrics | 22 years ago |

This guy I know, total pot-head, once got extremely high and fell asleep listening to Kid A. He dreamt out a movie plot that went along with the album somehow. Kid A was the first human clone (i actually think i heard that theory somewhere else) and, although public opinion was against this cloning, the clone somehow came back and saved the earth from aliens. Optimistic sort of seems to fit in here. The song would be from the alien point of view, with humans being the subject they are singing about. "Big fish eat the little ones", not their problem, the entire verse about this one and that one being optimistic, or fodder, is just the alien commenting on each new piece of livestock as it shuffles onto the ship. "dinosaurs roaming the earth" = humankind is doomed, "messed up marionette, flying along on a prison ship", torturing humans on board the alien ship. I know this seems totally out there and i really don't believe it, but it's such a fun way to listen to the album. You can get most of the songs to fit in pretty well to some kind of plot. I'll try to elaborate more later, on each song in turn. Also, as my friend described it, the awesome shuffle groove leading into "In Limbo" is where the clone baby makes his first appearance, pimp-walking into the scene. |
