This song is about alcohol. Very creative, because it's from the prespective of the alcohol. I'LL TURN YOU ON AND SWITCH YOU RGHT OFF you get turned on to drinking, and then it switches your brain right off. I'LL MAKE SURE YOU LIKE WHAT YOU SEE when you're intoxicated, even when you're doing really stupid or painful things, you like what you see. FORGET ALL THAT YOU ONCE BELIEVED, NOW YOU WILL BELIEVE IN ME alcohol does cause people to have more closed minds. it also kills brain cells, which would cause a person to forget what they believed. IN ALL OPINIONS THAT YOU VOICE, IT'S MY VOICE THEY ALL HEAR here's another one that relates to having a closed mind, and having alcohol change your beliefs and base it on getting drunk. "you didn't used to steal, but then you started stealing alcohol". CHORUS alcohol can have an effect on your ideas and values because of how intoxicating it is. it also breaks down your individuality, since it is something that "everybody does", and it makes you more of a number. I'LL GIVE YOU A TASTE OF THE BLAND to an alcoholic, life is all basically the same: a tangled mess of true and false memories. pretty bland. INTOXICATED, YOU TAKE ME IN well that's pretty obvious right there. YOU'LL NEVER FEEL THE TOUCH OF MY HAND as far as i know, nobody wants to become an alcoholic, but it happens to so many people anyway. why? because they don't knwo what they're doing to themselves. they don't feel the touch of the alcohol before it's too late. YOU'LL NEVR HAVE TO THINK AGAIN well, if you're intoxicated, you dont' really have to think, and most people don't anyway. IT'S JUST A MATTER OF LOST TIME being drunk, in the eyes of sXe, is a waste of time. AFI is a very strait forward sXe band, and it definetly shows in these lyrics. |

i think this could be a song to a relative. i was thinking maybe his kid, but i dont' think that devon ever had one, or was going to. he's kind of young for that anyway. so it got me thinking that it could be about a newborn, or soon-to-be-born sister or something. "CHRISTINA I'M TIRED OF BEING SO FAR AWAY" he's dissapointed cause he's always away from her, since his band was touring and he didn't have time to be home.. "YEAH I'M STILL HERE, I'M NOT GOING" when he is around, he doesn't want her to think that he's going to leave right away, and wants to make the best of his time with her."I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU" he feels that since she's so young and innocent, that he's responsible to teach her and help her, but he's never there. "UNTIL THE ANCHOR BREAKS" he's supposed to be there until she becomes an adult, and ready to "set sail" on her own. "FOUR YEARS AHEAD, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING" he thinks that she's not going to think that greatly of him in a few years cause he won't be that big a part of her life. "I NEED YOU NOW, YOU HAVE FAITH, BUT I KNOW THAT IT WON'T LAST" he feels attached to her, and he knows that since she's so young right now, she kind of idleizes him. but because of the lack of time he's with her, she won't think of him that way for very long. "HOW DO WE TREAD ON WHEN THESE FUCKERS ARE MAKING OUR PLANS" since he was signed on to a pretty big record lable (Epitaph), he was forced to move around a lot, tour and such, and wasn't really able to make his own decisions or plans. "IDLE WILL KILL" he feels that he's going to hurt her, even though she idleizes him. 'GODDAMN IT GETS SO HARD NOT KNOWING WHAT'S GOING ON" since he's not there, he doesn't get to witness all of her "firsts". i love this song |

This song is about a breakup and its reprecussions. He didn't think of the relationship as a team, but more as a competition. he was always paranoid, and trying to be "on top" of the relationship. when she broke up with him, he felt defeated. he doesn't even want to be friends with her now because he knows how much they both cared for eachother and it would hurt to even see her face. All he really remembers from the relationship is the pain and the struggle, but not all the fun and love that they shared. every once and a while he feels the pain of his loss, but he doesn't want to admit that it was him that screwed things up, so he's always blaming her for everything. it makes him happy that she believed in him and kept trying to work things out, but sad that she did it and that he hurt her. but this is the way that he's always handled things. he just wants to disconnect; from her, from love, from relationships in general. a pretty sad song actually. |
