Sparta – End Moraine Lyrics 20 years ago
i think is quote summarizes this song, "A man’s memory may almost become the art of continually varying and misrepresenting his past, according to his interest in the present." — George Santayana, he also said "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it".

Johnny Cash – The Ballad of Ira Hayes (Peter La Farge cover) Lyrics 21 years ago
Jesus Christ....it's NOT HIRAJIMA it's "IWO JIMA", and it's NOT HIRAJIMA hill, it MOUNT SURABACHI, on which the flag was raised. You are correct Ira Hayes and five others raised the flag on the Mount, to show the end of Japanese control of the island. Only three survived Iwo Jima though. The picture was so loved by the public that President Franklin D. Roosevelt, had the remaining three survivors of which Ira was one, shipped home to aid war bond drives. Ira Hayes though asked to be sent back to the front lines, stating that "sometimes I wish that guy had never made that picture". Yes America was racist against indians, but Ira Hayes didn't die because of racism. After the war Ira returned to his reservation, disillusion by what he felt to be unneccesary adoration. Ira became a drunk, because he could not handle, the fact that he had been made a hero just because of one photo. Ira died in 1955 of exposure...

Bad Religion – Faith Alone Lyrics 21 years ago
the point of this song, sounds very much like Friedrich Nietzsche in "thus spoke zarathrustra", and the holy idea that the idea of a god is no longer enough to sustain modern man and that "I teach you the overmnan. Man is something that shal be overcome." in turn saying that the answers and meaning we seek is not in others or religion, but is found only in ourselves.

Against Me! – Turn Those Clapping Hands into Angry Balled Fists Lyrics 21 years ago
great song..damn good live... IGNORANCE IS BLISS

I think this song is talking about commercialism and how the average person can care less about the fact that nearly everything they own was made by exploiting the people of developing countries for cheap labor,

Also how they block out other problems in the world by just going on with their day as if nothing matters they "just keep on smiling"

Lagwagon – Train Lyrics 22 years ago
great song, sort of sounds like someone or a band who had sold out, "amputated creative tongue", and how in the end they wound up broke, to "sing on and on on" for someone who "robbed you blind".. thats just what it seems like to me though

At the Drive-In – Napoleon Solo Lyrics 22 years ago
...Napoleon Solo was the main character on The man from U.N.C.L.E. he was described as being

"Suave, debonair Man from U.N.C.L.E. Napoleon Solo could spend a day eliminating Thrush agents, penetrating secret fortresses, preventing devious plans for world conquest, getting captured and escaping again, and still have the energy to invite a young lady or two out to dinner in the evening - without even one change of clothes." I dont know if that will anyone take more out of the song but figured I'd let you know

Thrice – So Strange I Remember You Lyrics 22 years ago
Johnny GT, I'm agnostic, still I listen to Thrice, i think this a great song, how can you listen to Thrice a christian band and then just go slam christians, isn't that hypocritical. By slamming Christians and all religious people are not you in turn slamming Thrice because with numerous lyrics you can take as a reference to religion. wouldn't they be just a bunch of "Religious A-Holes".

And Johnny a tip if you want to say their is no god at least have factual info. the most basic human beings weren't even around until 50,000 years ago. How could "some fag" write the Bible 200,000 years ago, he couldn't have.
SO STOP proving your own ignorance and giving all those who are agnostic and atheist a bad rap, just keep quiet and go read something informative and come back when your well versed enough to argue without cussing...

Thrice – Eleanor Rigby (The Beatles cover) Lyrics 22 years ago
a boring Beatles song, this is definetly one of the greatest songs ever produced along with a few dozen other ones, I'm sorry, I hate to sound like a superficial prick, but how can you say "Keep it Metal" when your posting comments on a song played by a punk band, and lastly...

AFI – Reiver's Music Lyrics 22 years ago
probably one of their best songs to be honest, pity only two have commented on it...

I take it as someone giving up on love, it's titled "REIVER's MUSIC" Paul Reiver is famous for his midnight ride proclaiming the British are coming, this is the announcement that their giving up on love, I take the halos as meaning an angel because we often compare those which we are infatuated with to an Angel but it the end it doesnt even matter because all those enamored(inflamed with love) wont even care. so with out love their is nothing "Nothing is all we own"; The second verse is just talking to those who've proclaimed the same idea; thats just my take on it

Thursday – Autobiography of a Nation Lyrics 22 years ago
In my own haste I forgot to answer the question,
Why all Americans(including African Americans; who made up the 24th and 25th regiments aka the Buffalo Soldiers) need to hang their heads?

So why, it was in are dealings with the Indians the endless broken promises the steady amount of lies which we fed to them, many straight from Washington. We told the Sioux they could have the Black Hills as long as grass grew there and there were buffalo to graze. As soon as gold was discovered there the promise was broken and the U.S. Army hardly made an attempt to defend the rights to which they were promised. Till this day the U.S. GOV. has done nothing to rectify the situation, even though now nearly 130 years later the grass still grows their and one of the largest buffalo herds roams through the ground of Custer National Forest.
It was the forked tongue which wiped out the Indians, not the gun.

Thursday – Autobiography of a Nation Lyrics 22 years ago
I'll be the first to admit that what we did to the Indians was wrong and barbaric; but what all of you have FAILED TO STATE, is that the US DID NOT PURSUE a POLICY OF GENOCIDE towards the Indian, it was the Introduction of European disease into their tribes that wiped them out eg. Smallpox. In truth the US did try to find a solution for the Indians instead of Massacre it was to bring them into the society civilize. This policy failed horribly though.

It is pathetic how many on this board will quickly say how bad America is and the policy, but none are willing to say California should be a part of Mexico or the great plains(which our greatest export grain is produced) should be controlled by the Sioux.

Yet we still say they are the True Americans what we also fail to neglect; Many of the lands we stole from the Indian tribes in the Great Plains like the Sioux, Cheyenne and the Crow were not even their ancestral land. They were Plain Indians because they had, their land in Wiconsin stolen from them by tribes moving westward. Once the horse was acquired they became Warriors and conquered tribes themselves, untouched by none.

So let us not be led into ignorance and believe that all Indians were peaceful conservationist. A Great Majority practiced the SAME idea as many of the most brutal Europeans and Americans the RIGHT OF CONQUEST
maybe that will change some ideas and views

At the Drive-In – Heliotrope Lyrics 22 years ago
nacho, that makes sense to me, especially how we "let the thieves in through the front door" reminds of how when the nurse leaves she says the doctor will be in to see you shortly, and then I'm forced to pay 100 dollars for something as simple as a sideache

definetly great song, I can see the gravestone theory working, "born in hearts, etched in cold" could mean that what we think to write on the gravestone is born in hearts and memories than transcribed on to cold stone, and that "swingsets pay, the playground price" as meaning being young and having fun has its price for we have to watch those we love pass on
