Our Lady Peace – Made Of Steel Lyrics 22 years ago
I agree with UEDKhadgar in some respects. But I don't think she's on the edge of a building waiting to jump. In other songs there are lines such as "when you go to your hill, I hope you're well." I think he's speaking of the same girl, and that she's left the note in her car saying, "Help me, I'm at my place and I've been thinking..."

I can be anything that you want me to be
A punching bag, a piece of string, oh
That reminds you not to think
I found the note down in your car
And it’s not your fault it gets this hard
Gets this hard

I can be anything that you want me to be, anything that will help you. I'll be here tonight if you need someone to scream and swear and fist fight with, from the troubles of the day. I'll be here for you to get the anger out, not hurt anyone, and feel better tomorrow. Frostedflakes098 made a good point with the line about a piece of string. (So read theirs.) "I found the note down in your car" I'm sure she's suicidal, but for him alone to find the note, I think it was "hey, come find me I need a hero and I'm thinking of death but I don’t want to, and I need a hero, please come I trust you..." "And it’s not your fault it gets this hard" (Self-explanatory)

"Climbed up here to fall apart." Climbed up to your hill (mentioned in other songs) to breakdown.
"Fall apart" I’m doubting death, but more like cutting herself/breakdown.

Hold your head high
Don’t look down
I’m by your side
Won’t back down
You wanted a hero tonight

Hold your head high don’t look down. When someone looks down, they are vulnerable. An old teacher once gathered all the chicks, and told us about how out there in the world, in big cities, you got to hold your head high, carry yourself well. Who's more likely to be attacked? A strong, confidant person, or someone looking down and like they are willing to let you do what you want. More of a self-protection lesson for the ladies, but it gets the point across. "I'm by your side" I’m right here with you. "Won't back down" I won't back down from your problems, or the people/things coming after you. "You wanted a hero tonight." You wanted someone to completely make it better.

Well I’m not made of steel
I’m not made of steel
But your secrets safe with me
I can be anything that you want me to be
A holy cross, some sympathy, oh
That reminds you not to bleed

Well I'm not perfect either, but I'll do whatever again. You're secret is safe with me. I think the secret is of how she feels that she comes up there to fall apart, and that she's been suicidal lately. I can be anything that you want me to be; even if I don’t agree Ill do what I can, so you don’t cut yourself some more. She might also go up to her place and cut herself/ "bleed"
(Next two sections repeat)

They knock you down
I’ll pick you up...
They laugh at you
I’ll shut them up

One of my favorite parts... He sounds so protective when he raISES his voice. "They knock you down, Ill pick you up." They beat you, they see that you're hurting and push you farther; I'll pick you up. "They laugh at you, I'LL SHUT THEM UP" It's almost as if he's yelling at them to shut up while he's telling her he'll do that.

I don’t know I love this song. It's so protective. It can also be viewed more on a personal level of "hey, life sucks right now, you needed someone to help you through, and someone you trust to watch over you, a punching bag, so here I am. I’m not made of steel, but Ill do what I can." That way it can also fit well with all well, non-suicidal people.

Five Iron Frenzy – Hurricanes Lyrics 22 years ago
I love this song. Not only does i make me want to dance, but I think its about how Reese's fiancee broke off the engagement. He loved her, and now he was so lonely "And I'm being haunted, by long forgotten dreams, for hurricanes have, the bluest eyes I've ever seen.. " He seems so lonely and numb but turns to Christ, because "they say, You were lonely too." and that God can comfort him because, well, Christ went through it too. It's such a beautiful song to me, so well done, and it hit me hard because I loved this guy, and it could never be. *I change the "bluest eyes" to "darkest eyes" and yeah, it hit hard when I first heard it.* I wish I could dance to dance to this song.

Evanescence – Bring Me To Life Lyrics 22 years ago
This is a Christian band.

How can you see into my eyes
like open doors.
Leading you down into my core
where I've become so numb.
Without a soul
my spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
until you find it there and lead it back home.

That talks about how how Christ can look through (her) eyes and into (her) soul. He sees into her, and then it speaks of how (she) wants to be brought back home, home to Christ. Home to his peace. She speaks of losing herself and being lost.

(Wake me up.
Wake me up inside.
I can't wake up.
Wake me up inside.
Save me.
Call my name and save me from the dark.
Wake me up.
Bid my blood to run.
I can't wake up.
Before I come undone.
Save me.
Save me from the nothing I've become.)

Again, this can be taken as Christ, save me from what I've become. I'm lost and losing myself. It's dark, cold, and numb here. Wake me up inside, wake up my soul set me free. It can also be seen from the non-christian view of her talking to someone she loves

All of this sight
I can't believe I couldn't see
Kept in the dark
but you were there in front of me

"I'm now free, look at me, look at everything I couldn't see. I was kept in the dark (of my own lies? depression? hate?) But you Christ, were there in front of me waiting for me to come. With arms wide open."

Bring me to life.
I've been living a lie
There's nothing inside.

Bring me to life

Bring me to life God, I need you, sorta thing. I've been living a lie without you. I'm numb inside and I'm lost. Bring me to life. Free me

Yes, I am Christian. So is this band. Take it as you like, but there may be a deeper meaning than a lot of you are seeing. But, if you just like the song, than more power to you.
