Coney Island is not shut down. The Thunderbolt (the precursor to the Cyclone) is closed, the Parachute ride is closed, and the Hell Hole haunted house is closed. Coney Island is still kickin' - take it from someone from there. There's a rich history there - the story of the Parachute ride closing is pretty good. Look it up. So, to me, this song really is about home...and reminds me how much I want to go back. |

What does Haligh mean? I think it's an exclamation that isn't really in use anymore. I bet you could find it in a dictionary of old/middle english (sort of something you might hear in The Canterbury Tales or Shakespeare). I think it's just "Alas!" or the like. This is the first song that got me hooked on Bright Eyes (and The Calendar Hung Itself). He didn't play it at the show on Tues night though :-(. But he did play everything else I wanted...and it was unreal. You should get your hands on the new song if you can. "One Foot In Front of the Other." I wanted to post the lyrics, but there's no addlyric function. And also - Bright Eyes basically is just Conor Oberst. He goes on tour with a different band everytime. It's all him, musical genius that he is. |
