The irony of this song is that it's stating (one way or another) that we're all lemmings that are brainwashed by the media and make important ideas into trivial events and "fashion" trends. on that note... i once saw the band interviewed on mtv after 9/11. they were one of the few who stated "instead of just retaliating, we should figure out why this happened" sirenonthe101 said that before playing they said "all the money in isreal couldn't buy this ad"...if that is true then my theory is that he might be somewhat sympathizing with the palestine youth...that maybe there is more to their protests than just what the media says...as why the T. Square kids were there? Not because they were violent or killers but rather they were standing up for something they believe in...whether you (+ the Media) believe it or not. I don't think he supports the Palestinans, I think he's just saying they are not different than any other group of protesters. Right or wrong, they stand for something besides what the media tells you. | are you nuts? this is an awesome song from one of their best albums. it's funny that u2 fans never realize this as they prefer songs to sing along with when half drunk. the 80's are dead people. u2 is not reo speedwagon. they were one of the few groups to actually not make identical CD's one after another...why they still remain. i lived in miami and this is the first song i heard to actually potray it as it really is...bright and fun but artificial and pretencious. | |

| the song is about transcendtial meditation...a branch off hinduism...and generally about the hindu concept of all things being one...the universe in a thought. it was written and sung by george harrison..the most influenced by hinduism. he also wrote and sang within you and without you...song with same concept. jai guru deva is a general chant (mantra) used by hindus. jai is a praising word...like Lord. guru means teacher and deva means god. | |
