Hum, I always thought it was dissing Church, relating it to the whore house AND the jail. I usually write pages on here, but this is a masterpiece i dont want to destroy with my foul interpretation. It's funny, cuz according to my analysis, your all partially right. Besises the guy who dares use the word OBVIOUS before handing an OBVIOUSLY inadequat interpretation. But so is mine. Just think about it. Religion = prison Church = whorehouse That's why all those line refer explecitely to jail... anyway, this is another mere mortal's analisys of a legend. Peace |

correction: I forgot to add one last question When is this 'summer'? ---> Is it really the summer or simply there to symbolize a determined amount of time that is passed? ---> Then could the summer not be the spand of his relationship with this 'you'? |

Summer, I painted a scene that lit the stars for me. Said "I can erase it for you dear" -Ok, i felt the need to interpret this one verse alone, cuz none of my friends get it. (And because of it's quasi-insurmontable poetic beauty) In short: He painted a scene, meaning he created at atmosphere, a reality, that lit the star for him, that represented the object of such splendor, such astronomical proportion. This scene was his bliss, his true rapture. "Said I can erase it for you dear". This simply symbolize the intense sacrafice he would do for this infamous "you". He's saying he'd give up his rapture for this "you". But since the scene is also his reality, his life, one could assume that he'd go to the extent of killing himself for "you". But I feel like making a more conservative approach to this, so i wont conclude on this and let you interpret it yourself. I think there's strong argument for and against... like most of Havoc's lyrics Remember, this is all in the context of that Summer "That summer created those words that came to life in three. They were denied by you." Again, he doesn't name the words which creastes a certain ambiguity, for the typical assumption deducts "I love you". I'll go according to this too, but aCrowdisUntruth makes a good point illustrating that they could be any words inspiring a certain rejection. The most important factor to me here, is the religious reference "that came to life in three". It's a christian reference OR to the Father, the son and athe holy ghost, OR to Jesus who supposively came to life in 3 days. PLEASE dont argue the validity of the bible here, just ancknoledge that it's a reference, there to give a biblical proportion to this love that arose that summer. Summarizing: - Found bliss that summer - Found love that summer - The object of such love he'd give up bliss for its contentment - The object of his love rejected his love/him Now the real debate begins - What is this "you"? - Was the "you" the object of his bliss? ----->That would imply that "painting a scene" = falling in love - What is the nature of the rejection? Well, that's all for today, i got an essay to write on Thomasism for my mediavel philosophy class. I wish I coul dwrite it on this song instead |

| Have you read any of what I wrote? arg. The oppress wife interpretation is simply specializing the overall meaning of the song. If you take it that way, we're all the oppressed wife. Also, taking it that way, the laundry takes a much more explicite meaning symbolising the submission | |

oh yeah AND! it is steaming, soups begins to melt, but one more thing. As odd as this is, and I haven't been able to analyse it yet, but it was in the roling stone magazine part of an enterview with Cunt ass courtney, "she just wants to love himself" I know, I don't quite get it yet, but it really is. Obvious when you listen to it anyway. |

I agree with most of you. Amazing song!!! I want kurt back!! Fuck courtney. I mean, ok, it's not proven that it's her, but it's proven that it wasn't a suicide. So all of you calling this a conspiracy... FUCK YOU! Now, important stuff, lyrics are a bit wrong. Listen at the end. Can't you hear that "S" he strench. The last 4-5 times of the 17 is "you know your rights". Get it? listen :D |

first, I love how sexier then sox interpreted the connection in between the lyrics of Days of the Pheonix... and I love your project.. keep me informed :D... I SUMMARISING - This song is actually attacking three points at once. The main one, if you ask me, is his the nearing end of his singing career, maybe even his life. I say nearing, but I don’t mean a couple of days or anything, the end is always near, from the day you start. The second would be easily comparable to Milton’s Paradise lost, and of course, the sappy Emo-ish love story relation which, in my beleifs, was never intended by they author (Dave wrote this one right?) He compares himself to a star beneath the stairs. The stair become very symbolistic in the second part as, like mentioned above (sorry, don’t remember name though you deserve credit), the stairway to heaven. But also, a star hidden beneath a stair cannot fulling shine bright. It lefts a couple a rays through the cracks, but remains unseen. That’s what his talking about. Becoming unseen... a simple ghost upon a stage. The reminisce of what once was. The lines “Glowing bright before descent And in the morning there is nothing left But what's inside of me.” Is probably the closest thing to an explicit vision of this. He’s glowing bright through his career. He’s someone, he’s something... but someday what will remain of this? Nothing “but what’s inside of [him]”. “I don’t wanna die tonight” also relates to this. Ok, now the second part also relates to this first part. This seemed to be the biggest misconception of these lyrics. People simply couldn’t correlate Satan’s exile from the sky to Davey’s career someday consummating itself. Regardless, it’s easy to find the affiliation of both emotions. The rejection that the author will feel once his name fades away is being compared to the rejection Satan himself must have felt. I’m not a religious genius (to put it very euphemistic way) so I can’t find all the clues that lead to this. But the fact that morning star (as mentioned before, sorry for not giving you credit) signify Satan is an obvious clue (if you knew that morning star means Satan). Also, the stars BENEATH the stair : reason number 2 why this is brilliant! -- Stars themselves belong in the sky by association right? -- Yet he is BENEATH the stairs. If you acknowledge them -- as the stairway to heaven, and acknowledge heaven as -- all the one could ever want, you realize that there is something -- missing. Also, hiding under a stair case represent depression -- Thus another hint that points out that he’s missing something. -- But what? Being remembered perhaps? Thirds and lastly, the emo-ish love feelings. Ok, some might be insulted by this, since it’s really limiting the ability of such a great writer to some teenage hysteric girl. Personally, I hated when every body took my songs and said it was about a girl, but in time you accept that poetry is what it is through the eyes of the readers. And to be honest, even I relate this one to my gf. Firstly, the star beneath the stair keeps the same meaning as in the first section. ‘Cept light becomes more like potential. It’s the vision of a being somewhat repress, not letting it’s full light shine upon the world. The melting wall is a great double meaning. It could be glimmer and heat of the star starting to liberate itself from a prison, or, and most likely, something self-destructing. “Who will be the first to begin their fall? Or will we become one?” Is where it gets a bit more on the personal level for me, and I strongly beleive that it somehow relates, let’s explain. -- ME -- Me and my gf were both very depressed before we starting dating. And we were both keeping eachother alive (almost litterally too). It’s like it was a time bomb, seeing who would explode first blowing up the both of us. Thus “Who will be the first to begin their fall?”. But then, we realized that the love we share keeps us alive, us becoming one prevented the fall. Thus the “Or”. – Overall meaning – I think he’s simply saying that if they don’t get together, they will both suffer. Also relates very well to the previous part on the self-destruction. “And in the morning there is nothing left But what's inside of me.” I see it as, the world doesn’t matter.. The only thing that does is this love. Can go both way. If they get together, he will have everything. If they don’t... will he get anything? Will he be anything? Am I the star beneath the stairs? Am I the ghost upon the stage? Do I have that potential too? Would she take me? Would I remain nothing but a shadow in her heart? Am I your anything... - self-explanatory the rest is easy to see I believe, ‘cept the last line, “Will you?”. I think it gives the illusion of proposing. A glimpse at marriage. |

Ok, FIRST, let's clear up the title. --THIS SONG WAS NEVER RELEASED ON A CD --- Since it was never released, there's no official --- title. Nevertheless, Kurt has cave them titles, but --- unfortunately for us, this is where it gets --- complicated. This song (the lyrics) was originally --- titled Verse Chorus Verse. Later on, he decided --- to change it since he gave this name to another --- song, also known as "in his hands". THUS, this --- title is correct for the song, but "Sappy" would be --- a bit more exact. The song itself is called Sappy --- aka Verse Chorus Verse, No Alternate --- (misspelling of "No Alternative"), Make You --- Happy, Happy, Happy Hour, Everything And --- Nothing, Another Rule, Laundry Room, The --- Rocker, Sad [1989 acoustic version of the song], --- VCV, Mistero, The Grasshopper. BUT, only Verse --- Chorus Verse and Sappy are generally accepted -- Ok, now the lyrics --- 1) He'll cover you with GRASS. 100% sure --- 2) Ok, I read this on other site, and it makes a --- bit more sence, instead of "The clue that --- came to you" it would be, "The conclusion --- came to you". BUT, this one i am NOT stating --- as a fact. I just think it's more logical. OK, now the real stuff here. This is a VERY VERY BRIEF analysis of the lyrics. I’m doing this now, and I have about 15 minutes. First, no it’s not about a relationship, although, poetry is what it is through the eyes of the reader, so I guess it sorta becomes that. However this song is a whole theory/philosophy on what constitute being happy. It’s quite brilliant actually. It talks about the illusive nature of happiness in society. How we’re kept within the barrier of an oppressing world like a jail… like a cell... like a... JAR? The part about the breathing hole is about compensation. How people will put up with any repression as long at they get the misapprehension of small bit of something in return. For more info on this, read “The Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood. It’s referred to in a very explicit manner (probably cuz she doesn’t have Cobain’s genius). What next, what next. Ok, the laundry room refers to the monotony of life… People going around still acting the same each and everyday, abiding with this deceptive happiness… never searching for any true emotions. That’s where the phrase “the conclusion came to you” clicks in. He would be stating that this is what we chose; this is what we go with. Thinking about it now, the other line would also be somewhat appropriate, stating referring to his song as the “clue”. Also calling the population clueless… interesting. Ok, on last thing… the focus is always on “You will make him happy Then you'll think you're happy Then you will seem happy Then you'll think you're happy now” Realize how you never really ARE happy? Bingo! Shit, I have to go. Wish I could write more. If I decide to do a Ph.D. in philosophy/poetry, I’ll do my 400 pages essay on Nirvana. |
