Simon and Garfunkel – Bridge Over Troubled Water Lyrics 22 years ago
Johnny Cash does it now too, it's plenty weird, but still very moving.

I never thought about the lyrics when it came out, just that it was beautiful...and "I will lay me down", maybe vaguely that someone was laying down himself for someone else.

But not long ago it struck me so forcefully that it seemed to be about Christ. Our bridge over troubled water.

And even more, about us, being like "Christ" for each other, laying ourselves down for each other...and rooting for each other, sail on silver girl...a beautiful portrait of real Love.

Creed – Hide Lyrics 22 years ago
Well...I won't say everything it means to me...but I think it goes along with some themes in other Creed songs, in Peace Inside Us All, "why don't we tear down the walls", and in Bullets, "hiding in the shadows", hiding is a pretty negative thing, either to hurt people or to stay away from them.

We do it because we are afraid, or because we want revenge, "human pride sings a vengeful song".

I think we do have to hide somewhat, from brutal people, "wise as serpents, harmless as doves". Not to put your best self out there for any old boor to rip your guts out.

But to always be looking for a chink in the armor, to make a flesh to flesh contact with people.

And to never hide from yourself, "a state of self-denial" he called in, in Pity for a Dime. Never let another man take your soul and forget who you are, that is really hiding from God, like Adam in the garden, to me.

Creed – Ode Lyrics 22 years ago
I agree that it seems something like a symbolic crucifixion, "hanging on a tree" it says one place...and life is a fiery trial, so there's the burning.

It's hard to make it perfectly make sense...I guess it seems like he's talking to "Christ", he is not aware of how he is hurting him, walking all over him, but still with a head in the clouds...that could either be good or clueless.

It is a very effective song...some of the best ones don't make perfect sense, makes me think of Picasso, mixing up all the images...with apologies to Tool, it isn't possible to really make all the pieces fit.

I think the crucifixion is probably about us as well as Christ, we all follow in his steps, and echo that "my God my God why have you forsaken me" idea...every Alice song seems like that to me.

My first post on this site. :) What a great place!
