man punk is nothing but music. it's hipocritical. it's defenition is one type of group that's against another group while at the same time you are open to tolerance and all that. it can't be done. i happen to stand on the side that doesn't want a certain group of people in their "scene" because it's just weird. i guess probably because if you see some guy in dirty clothes and shit he probably isn't very judgemental. if you see some guy there with all these abercrombi clothes and shit with nice shiny adidas shoes and the whole get up they are probably just buying in to a fad. but i was just a hipocrite because if i was preppy i'd feel the same way about "punk" kids that don't care as much about social images. punk is nothing in style. you can be a punk if you say you are and that's pretty much up to you if you want to be but since there are no standards then there is no way to say who is and who isn't. you are best off just being yourself. am i punk? no. am i myself? as far as i know yes. i support what bands i like and i make fun of bands i don't like wether they are punk or whatever. everyone should understand the contradictory nature of "rebelling" by being "punk" and hating everyoen that copies you.... who did you copy? oh right, you are copying some guy that who knows how many years ago decided he wants a leather jacket to express himself. quit complaining about it, it's not like mtv affects you, you all just hate it because you feel intruded on and shit. but once again i am contradicting myself. i hate aviril lavigne and how she tried to be punk, but that's probably because i've never seen anything so blatant. "hey i'm punk because i wear cut off army pants." next thing you know 8 year old girls are wearing neckties with no collar, where the fuck did that come from anyways? well, i beleive everyone should stop complaining about all this shit. if you're punk then be a punk all you want but if someone isn't then don't make a big deal out of it. |

this song inspired me. i'm very much in the punk scene, in 3 bands at the time and i used to feel like i was unaccepted because i din't have a mohawk or whatever but then i kind of realized that if i did get one i would end up hating myself. you see, i'm not much of a fan of all the preps or jocks, pretty much any group where you have to strive to fit in and be up on the latest fashions and trends to be thought of as cool and think about it kids with mohawks and leather jackets... are you doing the same thing? in some cases you aren't but in others it is the exact same. kids trying to live out this "punk" look to be different but really are just the same. that reminds me of this movie called "slc punk" it's one of the better movies i've seen, in this movie this guy is like "fuck it all i'm original blah blah blah" and he goes on and beleivs this until he realizes that to be different you have to be yourself. that's what this song is about to me |

this song is about escaping. catalina is an island off california and this song is about how this guy is sitting there and he has to get away "can't tell me what to do can't make me think i love you!" that's amazing writing. the guys in descendents like boats a lot i guess, they sing about them a lot. i think one of the former members died in a boating accident but i might be wrong. someone did i'm pretty sure. anyways this song is about how he's going to escape all this shit at home or on land or whatever and just go out on his boat where nobody can bug him. i feel that way a lot. i wish i had a boat, or an ocean. |
