Unwritten Law – World War Iii Lyrics 22 years ago
dickward1 - good job on picking up on how ul changed their music to appeal to the mtv kids.

it couldn't be because songs from blue room were written around 11 years ago.

it couldn't have been because they are now older and don't still play the exact same music they did when they were 18.

it couldn't have been because they have evolved into a more solid group that has deeper lyrics and musical quality.

nope, they sold out. case closed.

and by original member(s), i assume you mean the 1 change in lineup that is bassist john bell being replaced by pat kim. that was such a huuuuuuge change

Unwritten Law – Evolution Lyrics 22 years ago
i think this song is talking about how bands "sell out" and change to satisfy others. this song is a mission statement of sorts saying unwritten law isn't about that and isn't one of the label whore bands.

my fav. line of this song is 'nothing changes if nothing changes.' this line is so wonderfully ambiguous and has a wide variety of intepretations. my personal take on it is that in order to evolve, you need to change. change your life, change your habits, change everything. if you don't do anything differently, then nothing will change and you will be at a stand still.

life is all about evolving and adapting, something ul has clearly done as evident by their discography. each album has a different sound and subject matter. this, my friends, is why ul owns you

Unwritten Law – Superficial Society Lyrics 22 years ago
"Open your mind and close your eyes
To the things that really persist
It's not your hair or the things you wear
That makes someone socially exist "

that was my senior quote for the high school yearbook. this song is pretty self explanitory, but it's part of life. some people are always going to be too cool for everyone.

Unwritten Law – 418 Lyrics 22 years ago
this song is in my opinion, one of ul's deepest and most spiritual. here are some reasons why i dig it so much

- the heartbeat and aleister crowley/thelema reference in the beginning of the song (do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law)

- the random sounds you hear in the background (phone ring, etc...)

- the change in beat towards the 2:48 mark in 418 as a standalone track

- the lyrics. ul is again referencing looking towards the sky to find answers (see 'tell me why'). the lyrics in this song are left to interpretation in parts, and for that i love it. each person can take away their own meaning

- the incredible feel and texture this song gives off while listening to it under the influence. seriously, next time you're high put this on.

that is all, now read the book of the law

Unwritten Law – Tell Me Why Lyrics 22 years ago
i don't think it's specifically about a relationship, but more about life in general. scott is asking why he is alive and on this earth because he is having all these problems and looking back on happier days. he isn't understanding why all this bad shit is happening and wants some answers.

Unwritten Law – CPK Lyrics 22 years ago
this song hit home when i was graduating from high school. looking back on all the fun times and friends, i knew everything would change as people moved away and whatnot. it just makes you long for the days of your youth when your only responsibility was to have fun and be a kid. i wish i knew how good i had it back then

Unwritten Law – Shallow Lyrics 22 years ago
"I walk alone
My thoughts aren't always carved in stone
My life revolves according to me,
And what you say don't mean a fucking thing to me
Yeah, you'll see
I'll make it further on my own"

this line says it all. it's saying fuck the world, do what you want
