| The Knife – Like a Pen Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I might be grasping at straws here, but you know those old pens that you actually have to dip in the ink with the really sharp points? here, I thought the knife were saying "Sharpen my body" as in, tone down, fit the standard, mainstream version of beauty which is to be super skinny like one of those pens that you dip in the ink. You don't sharpen the PEN, but you sharpen your body LIKE the pen. | |
| Atmosphere – Became Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| It would have been more amazing if the song was literally about a dog, IMO. Just like that switch at the end of "Yesterday" when you find out it was about his dad. Would have been a classic switchup. | |
| The Weeknd – Twenty Eight Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
Here's my take on it, copy and pasted from what I put on the last fm shoutbox: i love this. after studying this song for months and with the emergence of the video: it feels like this song is about the weeknd attempting to save a stripper girl from that lifestyle, yet she eventually told all of her co-workers and they all wanted a piece of him too. the weeknd is regretting the whole thing "If I knew..... I would have left you at the club" and he also notes the girl saying she has nobody and nowhere to go but then asks the rhetorical question who keeps calling on her phone (hint: It's him). He knows he's wrong but he still can't resist calling her. amazing, amazing lyrical concept for a song. The Weeknd is a genius and way underrated. |
|
| Against Me! – The Ocean Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| Same here. I love how everyone had their minds made up as if it was just impossible. | |
| La Dispute – Edward Benz, 27 Times Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| They really do outdo every single band in the scene when it comes to lyrical ability. The emotional quality of the music is the textbook definition of what an "emo" band should strive for. | |
| The Antlers – Sylvia Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| i laughed out loud. well done. | |
| Warpaint – Set Your Arms Down Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Considering that they intended this to be a stoner album, it's not much of a stretch that they could have been sitting on the couch baked out of their minds watching this musical and thought "Hey...this would be pretty rad to write a song about, man" | |
| Yeasayer – O.N.E. Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I'm hearing "it feels like being tranquilized" | |
| Grizzly Bear – Southern Point Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| true true, i had to see them live to finally be able to tell the difference, sadly. | |
| Dirty Projectors – Temecula Sunrise Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| is there a word between getting and wasted? | |
| Grizzly Bear – Southern Point Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| TherellBeSnacks, I can't tell if you're making fun of the site or actually being serious hahaha. But Ed Droste is that dude, look at the way he says "Never say it's the last word, it's not the last word" | |
| Closure In Moscow – Sweet#hart Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think it's about a guy who is trying to convince his girl to have sex with him but she doesn't want to just yet (I'm dying to feel what you feel now, you've already been such a sweetheart, and I know we all get scared, we all get scared). The part which shows the girl is scared is: Because, lover, lover breathing down my neck Incendiary breath And still my lover is a burden Tell me something could you smell my fear? As I lay there Cringing on your bed It boils down to "too much head, too little heart," which, as someone mentioned, is probably the prevailing theme of the album -- his ol lady is thinking too much about the situation, instead of letting her heart into the equation. |
|
| Mychildren Mybride – Boris the Blade Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Boris the Blade is a character in "Snatch". sadly, the lyrics have nothing to do with the film. | |
| Fleet Foxes – He Doesn't Know Why Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Listen to the Robin's flow on this song. It's mesmerizing. His voice is SO enigmatic. | |
| Nas – Street Dreams Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Nobody commented? Classic fucking song. Nas at the prime of his storytelling ability. | |
| Fight Paris – Complete Heat Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| They're southern metalcore; plain and simple, guys. Bands include: Every Time I Die, Maylene & The Sons of Disaster, The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, He Is Legend, Cancer Bats, etc. | |
| Bring Me the Horizon – Chelsea Smile Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Did nobody see the film 28 Weeks Later? The end is extremely fucking nigh; talking about a disease, and a secret "at the tip of the tongue" (the disease could be contracted by saliva) | |
| Emarosa – The Past Should Stay Dead Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| We all know Johnny's history of making up his own lyrics, so I'm not surprised that "fit" (the obvious fit here) comes off as "fix". | |
| Yeasayer – Wait for the Summer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| oh my god. you can drown in this song, haha | |
| Dance Gavin Dance – Uneasy Hearts Weigh the Most (feat. Nic Newsham) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| @ Sharrrrkbate, you're absolutely right, because i was so ready to write this band off after jonny left. but after hearing some of their new songs, it seems like they've definitely hit their stride, and weren't crippled by the lineup change at all. still, not every band fares so well. | |
| A Day to Remember – You Should Have Killed Me When You Had the Chance Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"But oh my god, this verse is THE BEST!! I love it!! "I walked into your house this morning I brought the gun from our end table Your blood was strewn across the walls They'll find you on your bathroom floor when I'm done But should I write it all off?" It gives me goosebumps. I can't believe there aren't more comments. " yeah, seriously. what kind of metaphorical sense is he making here? |
|
| Nightmare Of You – I Don't Want to Dance Anymore Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"In your morning terror of not knowing what to wear..." Great line right there. and yes it does make sense as "shrew" |
|
| Kevin Devine – You're My Incentive Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
" you've been praying for change but you ain't been to church since the 10th grade and you cry at your job don't believe in your vote and never celebrate your birthday so you set up a dinner to make you feel less desperate and worthless but your dad gets drunk so your mom throws a fit while your man hits on the waitress" is also my favorite verse. haha that girl has the worst luck. |
|
| Jens Lekman – A Postcard To Nina Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| forgot to say how funny this song is, from his pronunciation of father to "i send back out of office auto replies" | |
| Jens Lekman – A Postcard To Nina Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
love this song, cant believe this black guy is the first person to reply, haha song is great lyrics are great and it seems true too..based on a true story cause he explained it live @ the pitchfork festival (look for it on youtube) but some of these lyrics are either wrong or go to a different version of the song... for example, "embarrased"-->"a little nervous" "laughs":-->"jokes" minor stuff really |
|
| Odd Project – Electro Defy Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
You are the fire inside the lightning of the storm. You burn the bridges and they keep me warm. You keep the fire alive, and I want to burn. ^ best part of the song. |
|

| Abbott Hayes – A Slideshow of Better Things Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I love how he weaves in and out of his words in the first verse. Anybody else think he sounds just like the Say Anything (www.purevolume.com/sayanything) vocalist MAX BEMIS? |
|
| Defiance, Ohio – The New World Order Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Good song...I love the way it's sung too. | |

|

Oh girl, fo' sho, I would, now I might as well, Let it go A broken heart, a broken heart don't feel so bad. But she looks, she looks so good Let it go A broken heart, a broken heart don't feel so bad. Take a breath, not another word. But she looks, she looks so good it hurts. That girl's a killer, I think it's safe to say. This girl's got me down to survive her. I can't deny her, come on lets face it, You're so dramatic, you might as well embrace it. You're so dramatic, you might as well... Let it go A broken heart, a broken heart don't feel so bad. But she looks, she looks so good. Let it go A broken heart, a broken heart don't feel so bad Take a breath, not another word. But she looks, she looks so good it hurts. Take a breath, not another word. But she looks, she looks so good it hurts. Take a breath, not another word. But she looks, she looks so good it hurts. Take a breath, not another word. Take a breath, not another.. But she looks so good it hurts God damn, she really looks so good. Take a breath, not another word. But she looks, she looks so good it hurts. Take a breath, not another word. But she looks, she looks so good it hurts. Let it go A broken heart, a broken heart don't feel so bad But she looks, she looks so good.. Let it go A broken heart, a broken heart don't feel so bad Take a breath, not another word. But she looks, she looks so good it hurts. Take a breath, not another word. But she looks, she looks so good, it hurts. |

|
I can't believe nobody likes The Weakend? Well fine, don't come crawling over here when they blow up like My Chemical Romance did, because remember, I knew of them first, not you (and went through the trouble of transcribing the lyrics). Of course if you genuinely like The Weakend and aren't jumping on the bandwagon, then hats off to you. |
|
| Say Anything – The Writhing South Lyrics | 20 years ago |

| Trophy Scars – Designed Like Dice (Crickets in Tune) Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Let's face it. The two things that make this song is the drums and alternating tempo. Still, a good ass song. I just needed to clarify why it was so well-liked :D |
|
| My Chemical Romance – You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
By the way, it would be so cool if the whistling intro from Hang Em High was on here... I can imagine if they made a video for this...all the band members sittin in a saloon somewhere |
|
| My Chemical Romance – You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Life...is...but...a...DREAM! for the dead Someone's fav. line in the song, it's also mine, as the next: I also like when they cool off on the music for a bit, and you can hear him singing like a badass: Well I can't go down by myself....but I'll go down with my friends. MCR is awesome. Waitin on the new album! |
