God, this song is amazing. I feel like I say that about every song that I comment on on this thing, and I certainly say that about a great many Nina Simone songs. This song is just so ... jazzy ... and the piano work on it is spectacular. Gotta love it. Gotta love it. |

| Nina Simone – Falling in Love Again Lyrics

This song is so beautiful.... when I listen to it I am reminded of old classic black and white movies. Haha... I can see this song just playing in the background or something. I don't know how to explain it but it has a very classic, romantic feel to it.
It is definitely a song with melancholy overtones and the music just fits Nina's voice perfectly. For some reason I can just hear Frank Sinatra singing this song as well. Who knows... :) |

I love this song. . . It's not even that I can relate to it in any way because in all honesty I really have no idea what it REALLY means. I love the lyrics though and I love the music. One of my favorite Yo La Tengo songs.
My Favorite Part: "I waited for you as the trees swayed out of time / in a crowded room I pick up your lonely stare." |

| Wilco – Jesus, Etc. Lyrics

This song has special meaning to me. The first time I heard it, someone was playing it for me because of the doubts and fears that I had about our relationship. I don't think that there are any lyrics more soothing than "Jesus don't cry / You can rely on me honey." This would go on the soundtrack of my life. I love this song aside from that as well.... it will always be my favorite Wilco song. |

| Elliott Smith – Waltz #2 Lyrics

This is the second Elliott Smith song that I had ever heard, right after "Bottle Up and Explode." This song is about his mother and supposedly he originaly added "I Love You Mom" at the end of the song. Thinking this might be too sentimental, however, it was changed to "XO, Mom." Really a great song. |

This is such a great song. I think this is one of Cirque du Soleil's best songs, right along with "Quidam." It caught my ear because of how upbeat and catchy it is... even if most of it is in another language. |

Okay, so I suppose that I'm the first Emily that is commenting on this song. This should be interesting seeing as how I am able to respond without bias :). I am a Jewel fan, however, and I must say that this is a great song. I absolutely love it. I even love the name Emily. |

| R.E.M. – The One I Love Lyrics

Yes, I have come across many people that will swear on their lives that this is, in fact, a love song. Do some people refuse to listen to certain lyrics of songs? Look ... the chorus has one word ... "FIRE" .... I don't know about you, but that doesn't sound all that romantic or loving to me. A great R.E.M. song, however. |

I think that this is the deepest and most moving REM song, like many of you have posted. Did you know that 85% of statistics are made up on the spot? Sorry ... I had to, but I realize taht this song was written for those contemplating suicide. I love the message in it, and oh how true how true those words are. |

| Leonard Cohen – Famous Blue Raincoat Lyrics

Oh I love that interpretation of the song. It IS very vague, as is not uncharacteristic of Leonard Cohen, but I really love this song. The first time I heard it, I knew I had fallen in love with Cohen. I know of now other lyricist who can evoke such power in his words. The melody is simple and clean. Listening to this on an old Cohen record is simply one of the greatest musical experiences one can ever have, in my opinion. This will always be one of my favorite songs of all time. Tori Amos has also done quite a haunting cover of this song that I think most Leonard Cohen fans would enjoy. |

This is a really sad, disheartening song about isolation and alienation, as I'm sure you can gather from reading the lyrics alone. This is a great sad, slow song about being on the other side of the spotlight, certainly an interesting view to take. |

| Sarah McLachlan – I Love You Lyrics

I have to agree with most of the comments posted thus far, first of all the best version of this song does appear in her live performance of it on the Mirrorball CD. You can just FEEL the emotion behind her voice and the lyrics of this song. Listening to this song just produces this wonderful feeling of ecstasy. Upon hearing this song for the first time, it sounded incredibly familiar despite the fact that it is composed of a uniquely original melody and lyrics that I have never heard. I think it's ironic in that it's melodically fairly simple just the way love should be. This is hands down Sarah's best song. |

| Natalie Merchant – Beloved Wife Lyrics

|
Of all the songs that Natalie Merchant has penned and sung, I find this one to be the most genuinely moving song. I think that it's the best song off her Tigerlily album, possibly her best song of all time. I love the emotions expressed within the lyrics of a man who desperately wants to be with the "beloved" wife that he has lost. You do get a sense that while he is grateful that her death means she will no longer have to suffer, he realizes that his suffering has just begun. I love the desperate feelings of love and longing that go into this song and the melodic and vocal elements that capture it perfectly. Great song. If you haven't heard it, I encourage you to please go out and get the album or at least download the song. |

I have to say that this is one of my favorite Natalie Merchant songs of all time. There is just so much sentiment behind the words and it really makes you think about the destruction and falseness between the pristine beauty and images of what is known as California. The melody is great and Natalie's voice, as always, is so haunting throughout the song. No one else could make this song what it is. |

I think that Tina Arena has a decent voice and everything and I remember that when this song was popular I loved to listen to it all the time, but to be honest with you it's not that great of a song. Melodically it's simple and not very vocally demanding... but hey it's an alright song. |

I can't really tell you what I love about this song. I mean Pink Floyd is great and all and I absolutely adore the lyrics to this song. They're just so powerful. I think that my absolute favorite element of the song and probably the biggest thing that makes it so noticeable is the guitar in the beginning. Have you ever heard of a better start to a song? NO! |

WOW... masturbation eh... I guess I should have listened to the lyrics more closely. Well thank you for scarring me today guys. It's nice to know that the song has meaning though, because I thought it was a pretty silly song to begin with. I think the music is great in that it's nonsensical. Classic song. Always will be, especially now that I know what it's about. |

Built to Spill DOES do an absolutely amazing ocver of this song and I absolutely agree with you. Even the fact that it's over 20 minutes long doesn't detract from it's greatness. What can I say? The lyrics to this song are powerful and the music that accompanies it is equally powerful. This song is nothing short of amazing. |

| Ozma – Denise Lyrics

I have a very different version of this song. This is the way the song goes as far as I know. Some lyrics may be wrong:
Denise
Denise, washes out the color in her hair
Folds and pats her laundry down with care
Oh, oooh, oooh
Denise, smokes a cigarette that's meant for two
Wonders where she put her other shoe
Oh, oooh, oooh
But did it belong to . . .
Denise, stops the car and stares off into space
Happy that she found a parking place
Oh, oooh, oooh
Denise, tells her boss she'll go and check the price
But calls her friends instead to ask advice
Oh, oooh, oooh
What did they suggest you do
About your lying man
He's trying to do the best he can
Ooooh Oooooh Denise
Even if you don't come back
I'm turning up my -------
For you Denise
It's easy to love you.
Even in the darkest night.
I touch you and it feels alright.
Woooah Woooah Denise
Even if you don't come back
I'm turning up my -----
For you Denise
Denise, watches television until three
When she turns it off she thinks of me
Ooooh ooooh oooohhh
It's easy to love you. |
