Saves the Day is a brilliant band, and they stick with what Eliot would call the "individual talent", whether they or anyone else realizes it or not. There is a story that is connected with the Arthurian Romances which tells of Rishyacringa, who upheld a life of chastity which caused a draught in the land. When Rishyacringa loses his virginity, there is a replenishing flood which revitalizes the land. The release of water could be seen as almost some sexual release (which would not be unprecedented for Chris Conley, with Jessie and My Whetstone) but also a replenishing of the land, which is what i believe this song is really about. I think Conley is talking about a ravaged man, like the land, who has moved on. Overall, the man has taken a break from his depressions, and he has finally found some comfort, even if it does prove fleeting. I truely believe the water symbolism is to show the new found life which has been brought into this person's body. The despair can ravage you if you turn your head around to look down the path that's led you here, cause what can you change? You're a vessel now floating down the waterways. Clearly this is a warning to whoever is going down the same path (do I detect some Inferno: "Midway in our life's journey/ I went astray"?). Either way, Saves the Day is FUCKING BRILLIANT!!! |

| The "And I am no good at suicide" line does remind me of Hamlet, particularly the "what dreams may come" line, which could be reinforced by the title of the EP, "From the Depths of Dreams." | |
