Perverse?! Common... really! I'd say that yeah... this song has tonnes of sexual material; true as you've all pointed out. But perverse? Not at all... and there's a lot that's perverse in today's world. Nah... With all the affairs, STI's, sexual crimes... this song is turning around and saying... Love is beautiful. We tend to look at the world and say there are good things and bad things... and sex has been lumped into the bad things catagory... we teach our kids that so as to scare them into Monogamy... But in reality, love (if in best intentions) is beautiful. It's not that simple what is good and bad in the world... but it's our intentions which make things good or bad. To steal a loaf of bread for your starving family is in the best of intentions. Maybe the world just needs a little more innocence... and that goes double for all of you who believe it's only for the young. |

The many opinions and "layers" of this song are just amazing. And as every one else who reads this site, I have my own opinion which I'll now put forward. Think of the questions: What does a leader do when he takes a wrong turn and forsees his own demise? What does his followers do? How does the leader react? I'll just leave that in the air for now to be torn to shreds by all of you. Later on I'll come back and justify my view. |

Lately however, there has been a certain part at the end of the song that gave me shivers in which I had to listen to over and over to see what it was. Finaly I discovered it was the diction. "From this place here it takes me OVER" The use of "over" implies a sense of uslessness and the controling nature of fate. "And it might be lost in this place here" The use of "it", being a pronown-antecedent error, gives an impression of not knowing exactly what is in control of your life. What is 'it'? What is fate? That is a scary aspect of life, which makes you "lost"? "From this place here it takes me ON" This is the line which I pinpointed my shivers to. When thinking of it I remembered it being almost yelled, but when I listened for it, it was just merely sang. This word demonstates what I know believe to be the last "shell", for as fate takes him "over", he rises up to meet it and forces fate to take him "on". This two letter word demands to take control of your own fate. |

Once, I had deduced that the final "shell" was one of fate. That fate can take away what you truely love, and there is nothing you can do about it. Fate is just as final as the smear of a human body on the ashfalt after a car crash. |

This song, like all of Moist, is true poetry. Like SOAD it has it's messages, but Moist hides them a lot better. The main effect of Moist is that you can listen to a song over and over, and your opinion on its meaning will change. Leave it Alone, first SOUNDS very serine and "nice" and usually you will have to have someone point out to you that the learics are very morbid. This "second shell" of the song tends to be very distastfull, being about cleaning up a car crash. But even that has it's poetry. The nest "shell" is that the song is a love story about the loss of ones loved one. |

Tis about the asymilation of society. "Close your eyes... this envy that i've worn so well." This verse is society entising, or teasing a 'castaway' of itself (society) "Everybody wants" - we all have dreams "Everybody says" - we all lie when are dreams fall through "Everybody begs in time" - after a while we can't take the restraint any more "so drink me in like tainted wine" - give in to society "come bit edown on the sharpened cup" - give in to what will eventually hurt you. "and taste the dreams that numb the mind" - live the 'american dream', vise your own dreams "a simple word.... that binds.... thread... pins....bed" - how society makes you captive with false promises; lawers, etc... "you will be the first to fall" - humans are the first species to imprison themselves "every feeling will dissolve" - the book 1984, a world with-out emotions, ruled by society. "we are silver" - society is like silver, shiny, looks good, speads like wildfire, materialistic, yet consumes Oxigen to form Ag2O, a black tarnish that covers it all. "morphine baby" - unatural births causing babies to be exposed to leathal drugs before birth. "final breath, ever smothered to my breast" - A mother's nurturing now only helps in the Assimilation. "so shy.... judas kill... thrill" - we are desensitised to all that we do, and can get away with murder. "a memory i won' t soon forget" - however society always does remember all our mistakes; a false sense of innocense. "been washed out clean... you could sell" - Your mistakes can, at a wim, be taken fully advantage of, and in the end you must live with yourself. Overall.... That I get from this song, Live life as you want to. |
