First things first: lyric correction "pappa got a job with the TVA" not TBA This is one of the few country songs that I like. Probably just because I love American history and this song really portrays the time period beautifully. |

i alternate between being happy and sad depending on when i hear the song. half the time i feel like the one leaving and the other half of the time i feel like my friend is leaving. i have an incredible friend. she is on her way to being valedictorian and she's beautiful and so on. she's dying to get out of our small town in wisconsin and see what's out there for her when she graduates. im here with mediocre looks and grades. i'll probably be in wisconsin for the rest of my life, but i will always be here for my friend if college life is too hard or she's having trouble anywhere she goes. clara |

when i hear the song, i think of a man who is totally lost in his life. he doesnt know where he is and he wants help to get out of there. "secrets that i cannot hide" i think that he's depressed, maybe has slashed wrists. he cant hide them, but they're still his secrets. "When your education x-ray can not see under my skin/I won't tell you a damn thing that I could not tell my friends" i think that the education x-ray is a psychiatrist. but he doesnt want to trust the psychiatrist any more than his friends. that's just what i thought when i first heard it. the whole military thing works really well too. i like that almost as much clara |
